Principal's Message
Dear Families and Students,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break and we are ready to finish our second quarter on a strong note.
This week's newsletter is filled with many important reminders and exciting announcements. We would first like to remind you that the 2019-2020 Re-Enrollment form is due today Friday, November 30th, 2018.Information regarding re-enrollment details and the link maybe found below.
I would like to also take this time to thank all of our parents and guardians who attended our 2nd Quarter Parent Teacher Conference Nights, we understand how important these opportunities are to both our teachers and families. I would also like to remind our families that you may reach out to your student's teachers at anytime and arrange a conference, we are here to help!
The Middle School Decades Dance will take place next Friday, December 7th, advanced tickets are on sale for $3 and will increase to $5 if purchased at the door. Our Annual OSS Holiday Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 11th, 2018 at the Orlando Rep, more information may be found below. We will also hold our first paid Spirit Week of the 2018-2019 School Year next week to raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Michael. Please be sure to review all the information found in this week's newsletter regarding this event!
Orca Families, we are now accepting donations for our OSS MH Holiday Donations. This is a wonderful opportunity to help us show our teachers and staff members how much we appreciate them by donating gift cards or by making a monetary donation we purchased gift cards. More information and the SchoolPay link may be found in this week's newsletter.
This week's newsletter also features our October Commendations Winners as well as our October O.R.C.A. Character Award Winners, we are so proud of everyone. Keep up the great work Orcas!
Our Orcas will be busy this weekend in several competitions. I wish good luck to our middle school Model UN Team and Mr. Koebe in Sarasota Conference, our high school science olympiad team in the OSS invitational, and mathletes in middle school MathCounts tournament!

Re-Enrollment for the 2019-2020 School Year by today Friday November 30th 2018 !
Re-Enrollment submissions will be taking place online this year. Please read all information carefully and complete the form at the following link no later than FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2018.
All current students will need to have a response. If this form is not submitted by the deadline on November 30, 2018, your student may lose his/her spot at Orlando Science Schools for the next school year.
This form can be completed on any computer or mobile device. *Please do not reply to this email requesting confirmation. You will receive an on-screen confirmation if your submission was successful.
As a reminder, the Re-Enrollment form contains the following sections:
- RE-ENROLLMENT FOR CURRENT STUDENTS: A separate form must be submitted for EACH student that is currently attending and would like to return. Check the appropriate box to indicate whether your student will be returning for the 2019-2020 school year.
- PRE-ENROLLMENT REQUEST FOR NEW (NOT CURRENT) SIBLINGS: If applicable, submit the siblings’ information and submit an Online Application for each sibling listed. If space is available to enroll the sibling(s) listed, you will be contacted via email with instructions on how to complete the enrollment process once a spot becomes available. If the number of siblings exceeds the number of seats available, a sibling lottery may be held. Please note: siblings are given preference, but immediate enrollment cannot be guaranteed if we are already at capacity.
Student Immunization and Verification of Residence must be up-to-date for Re-Enrollment submissions to be complete.
2018 Orlando Science MH Holiday Donations
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As the holidays are approaching, it is time to prepare our annual gift bags for our Orlando Science Middle High teachers and staff members!
Help us show our teachers and staff members how much we appreciate them by donating gift cards or by making a monetary donation we purchased gift cards. Popular gift cards are Target, Barnes, & Nobels, Publix and Amazon.
Gift card donations may be dropped off at the front desk and monetary donations may be provided using the SCHOOLPAY link below. Donations of $5, $10, $15 and $20 work bests,

Lynx Lane Spirit Week-December 3rd-7th 2018
Orlando Science NJHS Chapter is pleased to announce that we will hold a Spirit Week during the week of December 3 -December 7, 2018. Students may participate in daily activities by paying $3 per day or $10 for the whole week. All proceeds will be donated to help recovery efforts of those who were affected by Hurricane Michael. Below you will find our spirit week theme days and details. Tickets may be purchased before or after school from an NJHS member. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Frunker in room 148.
All Students must follow standard dress down day policies and procedures each day. Failure to follow the dress down day rules will result in disciplinary consequences. Please see the Dress Down Guidelines below.

2018-2019 OSS Middle & High Yearbook Now on Sale!
Middle School Decades Dance: Friday December 7th 2018
In order to attend the dance, you cannot have any suspensions, Saturday detentions, or morning or afternoon detentions from November 26th, 2018 until the day of the dance(December 7th, 2018).
There will be a dress code posted fro the dance outside Ms. Santo's office. We hope to everyone there, please see Mrs. Frunker in RM 148 if you have any questions.
Registration Open for Orange County Math Tournament!
The Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society of Orlando Science High School invites all 4th and 5th grade Orange County students to compete at the Orange County Math Tournament (OCMT) to be held on Saturday, December 8th, 2018.
Registration is now open! If you would like to register your student for this year's Invitational, visit the Registration page and fill out the form with your student's information. Registration will be available until Monday, December 3rd, 2018.
Registration must be completed online at our website www.ossmualphatheta.com no later than Monday, December 3rd, 2018. Registration fee is $15 for each student and should be paid online via School Pay. The competition is open to first 250 students who applied.
The competition will take place at Orlando Science Elementary School campus which is located at 2601 Technology Drive, Orlando FL 32804.
OSS Annual Holiday Concert: December 11th 2018
Model United Nations- FHSMUN 16 -December 1st 2018
This Saturday, December 1st, OSS will participate in FHSMUN Sarasota. Now in its sixteenth edition, FHSMUN Sarasota trains both middle and high school students on the ins and outs of Model UN, and prepares them for future conferences, including those in the FHSMUN family of conferences.

O(Outreach towards Community)-Lara G-R.
Embodies the school value of Outreach to Community. She eagerly offers to help both her peers and her teachers every day. She stays engaged in the school community by actively participating in numerous clubs, including Environmental Club, Drama Club, Volleyball Club, Fashion Club, STEM Art Club, and CMP. She also volunteers in the local community cleaning up litter and recycling.
R(Respect and Compassion for All)-Hilary M.
Although Hilary is mostly quiet and sometimes shy, she is supportive and compassionate to her fellow classmates and all OSS students and staff. She is always respectful of others' opinions, and she presents academic, cultural, and personal oppositions respectfully and tactfully. Hilary always has a pleasant and cheerful demeanor, and she assists everybody here at OSS whenever possible.
C(Celebrate Diversity)-Sebastian P-C.
Sebastian P-C. is a model student in the classroom that prides himself on accuracy and providing help to his fellow classmates. He asks great questions, completes his work in a timely manner, and altruistically offers to help his classmates with assignments after he has finished his own.
A(Advocate for a Safe Learning Enviornment)-Ricardo F.
Ricardo not only speaks out against injustice, but he also takes steps against it. He thinks of ways to advocate for school safety in and outside of school. Ricardo is not a passive bystander but actively stands up and speaks out against injustice.
S(Strive for excellence within a stimulating environment)-Fenn S.
Fenn is always implementing stimulating ideas and tools when the individual/group works are bassigned. He likes to do brainstorming by asking further questions for clarification. He makes the learning exciting and fun for all his peers.

O(Outreach towards Community)-Mrs. Frunker
Mrs. Frunker is the epitome of volunteerism. She is a sponsor of clubs that help the community such as National Junior Honor Society and the College Mentorship program.Mrs. Frunker is always the first to assist others in need and hosts the annual Relay for Life that raises money to fight against cancer. She also hosted her first CMP camp this year in Davenport with the middle school girl group.
R(Respect and Compassion for All)-Mr. Bautista
Joining our team late into the 1st quarter, Mr. Bautista has been a great asset to the team: accepting positions, leading clubs, and being a team player in planning all of our social studies events for the year. He has been nothing but respectful to all of us and we enjoy having him on our team.
C(Celebrate Diversity)-Mr. Demirci
Mr. Demirci is a high-energy teacher that puts a tremendous amount of effort into teaching his students in a fun and interesting way. He uses a variety of resources to make lessons enjoyable and does this well across many different levels of students.
A(Advocate for a Safe Learning Enviornment)-Coach Kelly
Coach Kelly is always promoting a safe learning environment in the gymnasium and on the field. He cares deeply about his students and makes sure they exercise with the proper technique to ensure safety. He makes it his priority to check all equipment before each use as well.
S(Strive for excellence within a stimulating environment)-Ms.Beeghly
Ms. Beeghly is always looking for curriculum materials and activities to nurture all types of learners in her classroom in a stimulating environment. She always tries to implement differentiated hands-on activities that not only involve physical movement and flexibility but also provide opportunities to enhance higher order thinking and problem-solving skills.

Osceola Science Charter Now Enrolling Osceola & Orange County K-8 Students for 2019-2020 School Year
Congratulations to Osceola Science Charter School on their move to a new campus! The K-8 school is relocating to a brand-new facility on the border of Osceola and Orange counties for the 2019-2020 school year.
The new, 70,000-square-foot campus features STEM and science labs, a media center, music classroom, performing arts lab, regular classrooms, a playground, basketball court, and football field.
Parents, please help spread the word among your community that Osceola Science Charter School (OSCS) is now accepting applications for Grades K-8 for the 2019-2020 school year. Whom should I contact if my student was or will be absent ?
Attendance is a key to the success of your student's learning. If you have any attendance concerns such as daily absences, upcoming absences, extended absences or questions please contact Mrs. Caggiano.
What do I need to do if my student is a bus rider or walker ?
Orcas who walk or take the Lynx Bus transportation must have "Walker/Bus Rider" form on file. If you need form you may find it below. Students must sign out at the front office before leaving school each day.
How do I contact My Student's Teachers ?

Join the OSS Parent Volunteer Organization!
Dear Orlando Science Lynx Lane and Technology High School Families,
It is time, once again, to join the Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO). Membership is $25 per family for returning families and $30 for new families, your membership dues go directly back into the school to provide items and supplies for our teachers. We are also asking that PVO members work with specific committees (School Improvement, Fundraising, Volunteer Work, Teacher Appreciation, Events, Etc.) Please utilize the SCHOOL PAY link below to pay your dues.
If you have questions, comments, or requests, you may email OSS.PVO@orlandoscience.org . A formal PVO committee, including president and vice-president, will be announced at the end of the first quarter of the 2018-2019 School Year. PVO will hold bi-monthly meetings that will inform parents of progress, agendas, and upcoming events.
