What is Chondrosarcoma???

Chondrosarcoma is a type of scarcoma (Sarcomas are cancers that start in bone, muscle, connective tissue, blood vessels or fat, and can be found anywhere in the body) that affects the bone and joints. This is the second most common type of bone cancer. This version forms in the cartilage cells of the bone.

Mortallity Rate

If its caught before it spreads, Chondrosarcoma has a 90% survival rate within 5 years. If not caught, then the survival ate drops to 45%.

Surgery is the most common type of treatment, varying from limb-sparing surgery (surgeon removes cancerous bone, cartilage, and some muscle) to amputation (the entire limb is removed).

Symptomes and Infection.

Symptoms include a mass on the bone, pressure around the mass, swelling, and pain increasing over time. It may start in bone tumors and could be a side affect from radiation therapy.

Chondrosarcoma is more common in Men than women and rarely occurs in people under 60. Chances of infection do increase over 20 however, but just slightly. It has 6 stages within the cancer. to avoid infection, stay away from chemical carcinogens such as alpha-naphthylamine, carbon tetrachloride, and benzene.
