Takoma Park Middle School News
May 15, 2020
This Week at TPMS!
Good Evening Takoma Families!
This is Ms. Deeny, your principal. I hope you enjoyed the warm and sunny weather this last week.
Marking Period 4 Interim Reports
By this Monday all teachers gradebooks should be updated with a P (Pass) or I (Incomplete) to indicate whether a student is on track to pass or in danger of receiving an incomplete for the quarter. Teachers will be submitting Interim reports for students who are in danger of receiving an incomplete on Monday, May 18, 2020. You will only receive a report via US Mail if your child is in danger of receiving an Incomplete for Marking Period 4.
On May 12, the Board of Education came to a decision on how students’ FINAL grades for the semester/year will be calculated. This decision does not change the the fact that all students will still be receiving an I or a P for Marking Period 4. The BOE policy decision relates to the student’s FINAL grade for the semester/year. Attached is the message sent to community on this decision: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/publicinfo/community/school-year-2019-2020/grading-mp4-20200512.html
In the coming days we will be sharing a presentation with students so that they understand the Marking Period 4 grades, their individual responsibilities, and expectations for their work completion during this time. It is important that students understand that they must sustain their engagement in school for the remainder of the year in order to receive a P for the quarter.
Student Member of the Board of Education Election
On Wednesday, May 20th, students will be voting for next year's Student Member of the Board, or SMOB. The two candidates are Nick Asante of Richard Montgomery High School and Vicky Kidder of Magruder High School. Students will receive information about the candidates from their Social Studies teacher during their lessons this week. On Wednesday, students will receive in their MCPS e-mail a link for voting for SMOB. Please encourage your child to vote in this very important process as they need good representatives on the School Board during this difficult time.

Distance Learning Resources for Students and Parents
Guide to TPMS Teacher Classroom Platforms - All TPMS teachers use either MyMCPS Classroom (Canvas) or Google Classroom. While this may seem confusing to parents, students know which platforms their teachers use as they have used them all year in their classes with their teachers. This is a guide for both students and parents. (Updated 5/1)

Esta Semana en TPMS!
Buenas tardes familias Takoma!

TPMS, Piney Branch and Takoma Elementary PTA Food Support for Families
The Difference Makers Takoma Park Middle School Pantry has been working with the Takoma Park Middle School PTA, Takoma Park Elementary School PTA, East Silver Spring Elementary School PTA and Piney Branch Elementary School PTA as one site in collaboration for monetary donations and to find information about how to receive food assistance during the coronavirus school shut down.
As a safety precaution and until we get past this current health crisis, we will not be taking food donations at the various locations throughout Takoma Park. Nor will we be able to receive Amazon orders. We will, however, gratefully receive monetary donations through https://tpespta.net/donate-now/. The PTA has been distributing Giant gift card donations on Sundays and will continue weekly so that families can shop safely for themselves.
If you are a family in need of assistance with food, please email
If you are in a position to donate, please do so generously as we work to keep our community safe and keep food in the homes of our families in need. Thank you to all of those who have supported this incredible effort. We are able to sustain families through June but are still in need of donations to keep this effort going.
