No School Monday!!! (Labor Day)

Amazing Week!

Families,
I hope you have had an amazing week. We surely have! We have learned how to write a sentence using our sight words. You can see these hanging in the hallway outside our door! We can write the numbers one through ten. The entire class can now write (or copy) their first name correctly (uppercase at the beginning, lowercase for the rest of the letters). It was hard to break some habits of "all caps" but the students are working hard each day!

We have learned about the some great "amazing words" in our reading series: proud, guide, float, preparation, creation, and cooperation. Ask your children to tell you about these words at home!

We are having a lot of fun learning our sight words. Each word has an action and "sentence" that goes with it. This week we learned the following sight words: a, me, see, one, A. Add those to last week's words (brown, I, am), we now know eight words!

We were introduced to the letters Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, and Nn this week. These are just quick introductions, teaching the sound they make, whether they are "tall, small, or falling letters" and listing some words that begin with each letter. In two more weeks, we will start our intensive studies with a letter a week.

Please keep practicing the books that come home (this week the book was Am I?) and the sight words. I sent home the "red words" in folders at the beginning of the week. Parents, please cut those out and keep them in a ziploc bag or pencil box. Practicing these words before bed a great routine to have each night!

Have a great three-day weekend! See you Tuesday!

Reminder: Practice your "red" words!!

Library Tuesday....Don't forget to bring back your book!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

To all of the families that ordered books from our first book order, I want to shout a huge THANK YOU! We met our goal of $200. This allows me to earn a lot of bonus points. Now, throughout the year, I will be able to purchase books for the reading area, books on CD for the kids to listen to in our listening center, and more! I am so grateful to all of you that helped make this possible. Book orders usually take about two weeks (sometimes less) to come in. Once they do, I will bag up your child's order and send it home in their backpacks. I will email you, letting you know to be on the look out! Thank you again!!!

FYI: Our site is "private" so no one can see the following pictures except our class! Enjoy a few candid moments from our room!
