Grace Newell-Goodwin: K-3 Intervention

Ms. Goodwin was born and raised here in Kentucky. She taught first grade for four years and then stayed home when she had her daughter. Her daughter just turned 3, so she is excited to get back into teaching! Her husband is a Detective for the Lexington Police Department and they have one orange tabby cat and a pet pig. Ms. Goodwin is so excited to start my teaching journey again!

Stephanie Bruce: District Mental Health Specialist

The safety and well-being of our students is a top priority for our school community; if students' basics needs are not met, they can't function properly in an academic setting. As a result of our Superintendent’s 10-Point Safety Plan, VLA now has a part-time District Mental Health Specialist. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school community that will positively affect students.

Mrs. Stephanie Bruce, our new District Mental Health Specialist, is available as a means of support for our school community on Tuesdays and Fridays. She has spent the past week learning about VLA and our unique family. Mrs. Bruce has 16 years of experience in the mental health field and has served as a School Counselor for the past 13 years. Having her in this new role will benefit our students greatly. Mrs. Bruce will help ensure our students are receiving the social and emotional supports needed to help them be successful.

Mrs. Bruce is required to obtain parent permission to provide services to students under the age of 18. If you are interested in services you can contact her at stephanie.bruce@fayette.kyschools.us or you may complete a referral for counseling services at the following link: bit.ly/brucereferral. Mrs. Bruce has also created a google site with a variety of Mental Health Resources and Support to assist our families. The website address is: https://sites.google.com/fayette.kyschools.us/vlasupport/home

Thanksgiving Break

FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Liggins announced this week that FCPS will extend Thanksgiving break to the full 5 day week! It has been a tough year for families, students, teachers and staff so a week long break will hopefully provide some time to relax and enjoy time with your families.
