October 2022 Navigator Elementary Newsletter
Principal Message
It has been a busy and exciting September. We have found our routines and the kids are doing a wonderful job learning and growing together. Willow has made a positive impact with the overall feeling throughout the building.
At our first PTO meeting, some wonderful parents took on different leadership roles to help with the function of the committee. I appreciate the support with both individuals who are part of the PTO and the many others, who have stepped forward to help with different events. We have a very generous and supportive community. The planning is underway for our first big event, the Halloween After School Social.

Jet's Pizza Fundraiser Dates
Our community partner, Jet's Pizza is hosting fundraiser nights for our school. This is a yummy fundraiser. When you order a pizza on a pizza night, provide the name of your child's teacher. The class with highest sales wins a pizza party.
The first Jet's Pizza Fundraiser Night is September 27.
Our next 2 dates our November 22 and April 11.
Thank you for supporting a local business and Navigator Elementary!

Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) Volunteer Program
WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement educational initiative of the National Center For Fathering. There are two primary goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. program.
- To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
- To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
WATCH D.O.G.S. is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement organizations in the country. Since the program’s creation in 1998, more than 6,450 schools across the country have launched a WATCH D.O.G.S. program of their own. Each school year hundreds of thousands of fathers and father-figures make a positive impact on millions of children by volunteering millions of hours in their local schools through this amazing one-of-a-kind program.

PE-Music-Art-Computer Science
This week in music, we’ll be focusing on music and movement activities to get the students active and making music together as a class. The song we’ll be learning this week is called “The Green Grass Grows All Around.” It incorporates macro and micro motor skills, memory, call and response, and pitch-matching. We also always end our classes with a music-listening activity, in which students will hear a musical excerpt and act as “mini-musicologists” - interpreting what sounds they may hear, what type of music it might be, and more. Let’s get jamming! :)
PE with Mr. Goodfellow
We have had a good start to the year in PE with our bright, brand new gymnasium. For the month of September we were working on track events, such as relays, shot put, discus, javelin and hurdles. Also, some fun teamwork activities. In October we will work on soccer and kickball activities.
Art with Mrs. Shappell
October is here and we are busy in the art studio. The students will be learning about the elements of art using fall themes. It's a fun time to explore the beautiful fall colors.
Computer Science with Mr. Chambless
This month in Computer Science we will be looking into sequencing and debugging codes in simple games.
