NEWS FROM MRS. DANIEL
Orchard Park Elementary
Mrs. Daniel
September 2021
A little bit about Mrs. Daniel......
Hello! My name is Melissa Daniel and I am the school counselor at Orchard Park Elementary. I am so excited to be back at OPES! I served as one of the counselors during the 2019-2020 school year. This will be my tenth year as a school counselor and my 19th year in education!
I was born and raised in Michigan, Go Blue! After graduating high school I attended the University of Tampa. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I was also an All American swimmer for the University of Tampa. I have taught grades 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th as well as pre-k. I earned a Masters degree from University of South Florida in School Counseling.
My husband and I moved to the area about 7 years ago. We live in Fort Mill and love it! We have two boys: Tyler is 4 and Seth is 2. We also have two dogs, Scout and Molly. I love spending time with my family and reading. I also enjoy working out and recently became a certified personal training.
I love my job and love helping people. I am here for you and your child! If I can do anything during the year, please reach out to me. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Coffee With The Counselor
Classroom Guidance Lessons
All students will come to my classroom as part of the Related Arts rotation. They will have classroom guidance every other rotation. When they do not have classroom guidance, they will have media. September lessons will focus on introductions, procedures in my classroom and my role as the student’s school counselor. Students in grades k-2 will complete a sort of the counselors’ roles. Students in grades 3-5 will play a game show with the counselor’s roles.
The second set of lessons will focus on academic success for all grades. We will learn important character traits and habits to be successful in school. Students in the upper grades will learn how they learn best. Students in the lower grades will learn behaviors that help them to be successful in school. Please ask your child what activities they learned in classroom guidance.
No Place For Hate
OPES will strive to be a “No Place For Hate” school once again this year. No Place for Hate is a collaborative initiative that provides PreK–12 schools with an organizing framework
for students, administrators, teachers and family members to develop long-term solutions for creating and maintaining an inclusive and equitable climate. No Place for Hate schools receive their designation in the following ways:
• Building inclusive and safe communities in which respect and equity are the goals and where all students can thrive.
• Empowering students, faculty, administration and family members to take a stand against bias and bullying by incorporating new and existing programs under one powerful message.
• Sending a clear, unified message that all students have a place where they belong.
The first step in being a No Place For Hate school is putting a coalition together. The coalition is made up of counselors, administrators, teachers, students, and parents. I am looking for 1-2 parents to serve on the coalition. If you volunteer, you will volunteer with No Place For Hate school events. Please reach out to me if you are interested in serving on the coalition.
