April - Month of the Military Child
Principal's Message
Get ready, get ready. We are currently on the final countdown to Spring Break. I want to wish everyone a very happy and restful upcoming Spring Break. I encourage all of our students, teaches, and families to use this time to relax and enjoy their days off from school. As many of you know, the time after spring break really tends to "fly-by" until we hit Summer! Please encourage your child to remain focused the time prior to their break and when they return. Chesapeake Public Schools Schools and Greenbrier Primary's office will be closed April 14th and April 15th for the spring break.

Preschool Application Window Now Open
The Chesapeake Preschool Initiative (CPI) Office is currently accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year! CPI is a FREE full-day program for children who will be four years old by September 30
and live in Chesapeake. The program is designed to give eligible children opportunities to create a firm educational foundation that can be used to achieve academic and social success. Acceptance into the program is determined on eligibility criteria and identified risk factors, not on a first-come, first-served basis. Risk factors include, but are not limited to; family income, level of parent/legal guardian education, housing concerns or homelessness, and special needs or disability. Applications are available on our
district preschool page.
Military Families Conference
Our military families are invited to mark their calendars for April 23, 2022, for our Operation Military Families Conference. The event will include sessions of interest to parents and students and will also offer community resources, giveaways, raffles, and lunch. This free event is open to military-connected students and their families, whether active-duty or veterans. An invitation will be sent out in March. We hope to see you there!
State of the Schools
The Chesapeake Public Schools Educational Foundation will be hosting the State of the Schools Breakfast on April 26, 2022, at the Chesapeake Conference Center.
Registration is open to families, community members, and business partners. We look forward to seeing you there!
Now Hiring Teachers & Support Staff
The School Board approved the Superintendentβs Proposed Budget at Monday nightβs meeting. As a result of anticipated additional funds from City Council, the budget includes a ten percent raise for teachers, a fourteen percent increase for support staff, and a five percent raise for administrators. With final budget approval, Chesapeakeβs
starting teacher salary will be
$51,500. Please keep in mind that there may be adjustments to the final version as we are still waiting for the General Assembly to finalize the state budget. We currently have several openings across the district and are looking to fill these vacancies. You can find more information about the application process
here.

Parent Lunch Safety Rules
1. Parents may eat lunch with their child at the parent table. This is always a special and exciting time! However, due to the growing number of food allergies, other classmates must eat at their classroom's designated table.
2. Please only include your student when taking digital or cell phone pictures.
3. Please help us to reinforce our cafeteria expectations while visiting with your child.
4. If your student needs to use the restroom, please have your student raise his/her hand so that a staff member can give permission.
5. Visiting siblings are required to remain with their parents at all times.
6. Parents should escort visiting sibling(s), if there is a need to use the restroom.
7. Please arrive a few minutes early in order to check in at the security desk.
Birthdays
The staff cannot distribute studentsβ addresses or phone numbers for the purpose of birthday invitations. Invitations cannot be distributed in classrooms during the instructional day. They can be sent home in brown envelopes on Thursdays if they are sent to the entire class β please plan ahead and send them in plenty of time. Student birthdays are recognized during the day. For consistency, no birthday treats will be accepted for the remainder of this year. However, parents may eat lunch with their child and bring a treat only for your child. In addition, table cloths, balloons, and gift bags are not permitted. Instructional and/or teacher time cannot be used for this purpose. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
