MST Magnet Elementary

Week of April 12th

Welcome Back!

Our theme for the 2015-2016 school year is MST Version 2.0: Uploading Excellence for 20 Years. This year marks our 20th anniversary! MST Magnet Elementary opened in 1995 at the Arapaho building and moved to the present location in 2005 after Richardson Junior High School was closed and repurposed. MST has built a legacy of innovation, creativity, and dedication to student learning that is immeasurable. It is through our partnership with our parents and community towards the devotion to student achievement and our genuine love for MST, that teach year has brought continued success.

MST School Performance Recognized!

The national nonprofit Educational Results Partnership recently announced its 2015 Honor Roll schools based on student academic performance. MST Magnet was named Star Honor Roll Schools as high performance campuses with higher-poverty enrollments that have closed achievement gaps among different student groups. MST was also named a STEM Honor Roll School for student performance in Math & Science.

Ms. Aurora Mays is a proud product of RISD. She graduated as a mighty mustang from J. J. She has taught in many areas from preschool programs for children with disabilities, second grade, third grade and now fourth grade all in RISD, altogether she has served RISD for 14 years. Teaching is her passion and educating our future is a mission that she strives to achieve everyday in her classroom. Everyday at MST she continues and to do what she loves, and loves what she do with all of her heart.

Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Dean - DP Aide

For the past 30 years, I have worked with children who have special needs. This is my 10th year here at MST. In my spare time, I like to read, go to the movies, and attend concerts. My family, which consists of four children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandson, are my pride and joy!

Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Lewis - 2nd Grade

Hello! My name is Rachel Lewis and I teach 2nd grade here at MST. This is my second year teaching and at MST. I grew up in Richardson and graduated from Pearce High School before moving on to Texas Christian University (go frogs!) where I received my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. Currently, I live in Richardson with my husband, Bryan, and two dogs, Gunnar and Tatum. In my spare time I like to paint, read, travel, and cheer on the Horned Frog football team! I'm so grateful to be a part of the MST family!

Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Delgado - ESL Aide

Hi, I'm Leslie Delgado. I've had the pleasure of working at MST 9 years now. I am the ESL aide, and I love my position. I've grown a lot as a person since I first started working at MST in 2007. My first year at MST, I got married to my best friend, Andrew, and we have a two year old daughter, Harley Quinn, who is the light of our world. Everyone knows I'm a huge animal lover and in my smart time, I like to knit and watch tv.

Career Day is Coming!

Careers don't just happen, they develop over time and often with specific experiences and education. At career day, your student will learn about various jobs and the education necessary to pursue those jobs. Through exposure to different professions, your student may discover what does and doesn't interest him/her, add to their experiences, and perhaps even discover something that makes them think a little about their future. In order to pull off a successful Career Day here at MST, we need volunteers to speak with our students about their professions. Parents, relatives, family friends: all are welcome!
