What I Really Want Your Child to Bring Home Each Day

I hope at the end of each day, when you ask your child, "What did you do in school today?" your child can give you a better answer than, "Nothing." In fact, what I really hope is that you don't even have to ask. I hope that your child is so excited about what they learned that they will blurt out a summary without any need for prompting. I hope your child doesn't dwell on what was taught, but on what was learned. Most importantly, I hope your child can't wait to see just what we will learn the next day. I am so excited for this year! I know it is going to be amazing!

Writing-For our first writing assignment, we will be focusing on point of view. Students will be using the writing process to write a short narrative piece based on a fairy tale written from a different point of view. We will also be reviewing the 6 writing traits-ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, and conventions.

Science and Social Studies begins this week!

Agendas

We began filling out agendas today. Students will write both the focus of the lesson and homework assignments. Homework will be designated by a box drawn next to the assignment in which students can check off when the task is complete. If the assignment is not due the next day, students will write the due date next to the assignment. We are requiring a nightly parent signature, but hope parents will encourage their child to use the agenda at home.

Snack

Fifth grade does not eat lunch until 12:20 so students are welcome to bring in a healthy snack to eat in the morning.

Safety Patrol and Band

Information about safety patrol and band went home last week. If your child is interested in doing safety patrol, please sign and return the Safety Patrol form. If you need another one, please let me know.
