"Be Committed, Be Consistent, Be Courageous"
Valentine's Day is an annual holiday recognized around the world. Valentine's Day is traditionally associated with red hearts, romance, flowers, candy, the exchange of cards, called Valentines, and other sweet things, which all symbolize love! As we go through the week that is dedicated to love, we want you to reflect on the love that you have for the work that we do each day. We know our scholars can be tough and the work is sometimes gloomy, but always remember the bright spots, which includes, the hugs, the laughs, and the “ahh moments.” It is in those moments that you should rekindle the love in your heart for the work. Take some time to love your family, friends and self!
Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. – Confucius
We love working with you and for you,
Priscilla, Chataqua, Chrissy, and Jabez
Two Weeks At A Glance
STAAR Goals
Aggressive Monitoring
Aggressive Monitoring: Monitoring the quality and accuracy of scholar work when they are practicing independently from the teacher and providing in the moment feedback in order to help support and improve scholar learning/mastery. Teachers actively work the room during independent practice times to gather data on scholars understanding of the concepts, to identify common misunderstandings, and to redirect and conference with individual scholars.
Why: All scholars are engaged and held accountable throughout the entire lesson.
· Teacher monitors all scholars during IP in a strategic and effective way
· Teacher knows what he/she is looking for and has the exemplar to compare scholar responses to
Teacher recognizes patterns in scholars’ answers (common mistakes, misconceptions, etc.) Teacher gives specific, in the moment feedback to scholars (affirmative and/or corrective)
Focus on Writing!
Push scholars to be more exact and specific when they write. Are scholars answering questions, composing essays, and/or writing paragraphs at a college-level? Or, are scholars regurgitating some generic words and phrases, but failing to ever write about the specific and more detailed elements of the topic? Push scholars to be more exact with their language and add more detail to explain their thinking. We can support scholars by showing them how to borrow words from text, and we can provide scholars with word banks of synonyms and high-frequency words.
The best way to know if scholars’ responses are exemplar is for us to do the writing that we expect scholars to do. If we have written the essay, the paragraph, or the written responses to questions, we know exactly what we expect and are able to provide scholars with feedback and specific guidance.
If you have questions about writing reach out to your content team lead, your interventionist, your dean, or Priscilla

Grading: The weights that are in the grade book were not consistent with the weights from the first semester. Yesenia will make sure that the correction is made. If you received an email from Yesenia about adjusting your grades and not using the exit ticket category in the grade book, please follow those directions. If you have questions, see Yesenia or Priscilla.
Panorama Survey: The winter 2020 Panorama Survey window is scheduled from February 18th – March 5th. The window is for 6th – 8th grades. The Panorama Survey measures student perceptions of teaching and learning for scholars in 3rd – 12th grade. Our 6th – 8th grade scholars will take the survey in the Computer Labs as they have in the past. Scholars that do not have technology will be scheduled. We will inform you when the schedule is ready. This document contains Panorama survey administration instructions, proctor instructions, a mini vocab lesson for scholars, FAQs, and information on next steps and should be reviewed.
Nurse Passes: All scholars must have a pass to see the nurse. There are no exceptions. If you need nurse passes, go to the clinic and get them from Nurse Adams. Do not allow scholars to call home to be picked up if they are sick without the nurse knowing. That puts the network at risk. If a scholar is injured at school, even if it’s an accident, please send them to the nurse and complete an accident form.
Sub Plans and Calling Out: Please ensure that you are leaving sub plans, a schedule for the day, and all needed materials for a planned absence in an easily accessible area of your class in order to ensure your sub has everything he/she needs. Also, if you need to call out for any reason, please ensure you do so by 5am and let both your dean and Parhms know. Work that you send to your team for your class needs to be electronic or already in your room as there isn’t always a guarantee that someone can make copies for you.
