Ms. Reed's Super Students
- Reading Out Loud-Reading should happen every single night. Please don't think your student needs to sit in their room with a closed door reading in their head. Students should be read to often at this age! Try taking turns reading pages or reading two short books, one they read to you, and then you read the other to them. This will help with their fluency, intonation and high frequency word knowledge!
- Family Fun Night Round Up is April 8th! Fliers and order forms went out this Wednesday in your child's folder. Visit carrollpta.com for more info and online ordering. Our spring book fair will also have it's grand opening during Family Fun Night! Hope to see everyone there!!! ALSO...We still need help with donations for our Family Fun Night grade level raffle basket. Please take a look at your child's sign up link below to see how you can help contribute towards this great cause...) https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/70a0d49a5ad2a1-family5/2196160
- 2nd Grade Musical- Its fast approaching! Don't forget your child's 80's attire for the show! They have a dress rehearsal during school hours on Monday and perform on Tuesday! I'm thinking I may take part in the 80's attire...I do have the hair for it ya know...
- Conferences! Thank you to all the parents that have already met with me! I know it is always challenging getting schedules moved around! For those that have yet to meet with me, I look forward to it! It's always fun talking about those you love! Also, if you have yet to conference with me, it is by no means required but I would love to meet with as many as possible! :)

I made them Brown-Es for April Fools Day... They didn't think it was as funny as I did..
This week we learned alot!
Math- This week we have used a little bit of our area knowledge to further discuss length. We have created our own inch ruler and centimeter ruler using tiles and base ten cubes. They have had so much fun measuring around the classroom!
Reading- In reading we have been learning and reviewing how to paraphrase using different graphic organizers and have included a touch of plot and setting while reading the always loved books by Robert Munsch.
Writing- We have been exploring 4 different genres of expository writing and the features they have. We've covered book reviews, informational poems, biographies and newsletters.
Science- This week we have reviewed basic needs and environment and took our CBA on Wednesday.
Social Studies- We will be learning about human and environmental changes using The Lorax.
Kids Count Puppet Show
Wednesday, April 20th, 8:30am
4380 Throne Hall Drive
The Kids Count Players are a volunteer project of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County. Created for children and dedicated to keeping them safe, these dynamic volunteers perform for kindergarten through second grade students, educating them about personal safety and boundaries, private touches and the difference between surprises and secrets. The program provides children with critical information to help them stay safe from abuse. The Kids Count Players will be performing at Carroll on Wednesday, April 20th. If you have any questions about their presentation, please contact Ms. Leven at email@example.com
Our second grade readers will be comparing books written by Robert Munsch.
In writing the boys and girls will draft and publish an expository piece of their choosing: a biography or class newsletter.
Our math focus will be on measuring and solving problems that involve addition or subtraction of lengths.
In science the students will explore different adaptations that allow animals to survive in their habitat.
