The Holocaust

What is the Holocaust?
The Holocaust occurred during World War II when Hitler was Führer of Germany. Nearly six million Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis. This included as many as 1 million Jewish toddlers and infants. Millions of other people that Hitler didn't like were killed as well. This included Polish people, Catholics, Gypsies, and handicapped people.
What is 'the final solution'?
The Final Solution was the Nazi plan to kill the population of Jewish people. In the early years of the Nazi regime, the National Socialist government established concentration camps to detain real and imagined opponents.
The End of the Holocaust
In the final months of the war, guards moved camp inmates by train or on forced marches, often called "death marches". Between 1948 & 1951, almost 700,000 Jewish people moved to Israel, including 136,000 Jewish displaced people from Europe
The crimes committed during the Holocaust devastated most European Jewish communities and eliminated hundreds of Jewish communities in occupied eastern Wirope entirely.
