Letter from the Librarian
Greetings!
I wanted to send everyone an update of events that have taken place or will take place within the library. It has been a very busy and productive school year so far. The LCPA library has had over 5,000 books circulated with almost 300 class visits for check-out, research, or lessons this past semester! I am looking forward to seeing those numbers grow. I hope that you find this newsletter to be informational and maybe even a bit entertaining.
Happy Reading!

Summer Reading Program
The students were rewarded and recognized for their efforts with an ice cream social. Belfonte was very generous and donated all of the ice cream. The students had an amazing time and I hope to do something similar next year!
If anyone would like to contribute ideas to next years summer reading program please contact me.
(Below you will see just a small portion of the students who participated in the ice cream social.)
Teen Read Week "Getaway @ your Library"
Social Media Scavenger Hunt
Participants took pictures according to the six prompts (see image below) and then posted them on Twitter using @KCMOLincoln and #LCPALibrary. We choose 4 students who completed and did an exceptional job with their images. There were 4 winners who were treated to some awesome prizes!
Bookend Decorating
Students were able to imagine and create by painting a bookend with their favorite design. Some were LCPA themed, some were book themed, but they all were original. They all turned out great and they help to brighten the library shelves today.
100 Point Club Celebration
What is the 100 point club you ask???
All 6-10th grade students participate in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. They choose a book, read it, and take a quiz over it. Each book is worth a different amount of AR points. Students must earn a specified amount of points based on their grade level. If a students earns 100 AR points or more per semester they qualify for the 100 point club!
(I apologize. I did not take pictures during the celebration this semester.)

OverDrive Media Console
OverDrive Mobile App:
This is a great app that is FREE and compatible with all devices. Students can also read books on their school laptops. Once a book is downloaded students do not need the internet to read. Did you know that each student was assigned a library card number when they enrolled in the Kansas City School District? Well, using that library card number students can check-out E-books using Overdrive through the Kansas City Public Library! Watch the video below for step-by-step instruction on how to use the OverDrive app.
Would you like to use OverDrive and check out books from the Kansas City Public LIbrary??
Contact me!
I would love to show you how to use the app and help you get a library card!
