A Note From Mrs. Mathe

The first nine weeks was a success! We are excited to celebrate the end of the 1st nine weeks with a much deserved 4 day weekend. I hope you have something fun planned as a family, or just plan to catch up on some R and R time.

There is a lot of illness going around not only Powell, but Montomery County. These illnesses, while not COVID related, can be mitigated with similar strategies including good old fashioned hand washing and covering our coughs. We are hopeful this 4 day weekend will help clear out some of the germs we seem to be sharing this week. Remember, if your child is ill, please keep them home to avoid spreading germs. Contact Mrs. Lutes, mlutes@conroeisd.net, or your child's teacher to report their absence if they do become ill.

Check out our new segment geared at informing our families about campus expectations brought to you by Pride Productions. These short videos will be posted in the Publisher for your information. We hope you enjoy and understand our campus routines better!

Walk to School Day- October 14th

On Friday, October 14th, Powell students will be participating in the International Walk to School Day. The focus of the day is to encourage our students to “get out of the cars and onto the sidewalks” not just for the event day, but also for the rest of the school year. This event encourages more physical activity, more family involvement, and a better, safer, cleaner environment for all of us. For those students who live too far away from the school to walk, Mrs. Owens will meet you at Capstone Park at 7:30 and our group will walk to school from there. If you want to meet Mr. Kirbo, he will start walking from the corner of Cat's Cradle and Research. Meet him at 7:30 am if you wish to walk to school from that location. So, put October 14th on your calendars and we will SEE YOU ON THE PATH!

Gifted and Talented Nominations

GT Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by parents and/or campus staff.

It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) scores have arrived before nominating their child as CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. All 2nd grade students will take the CogAT October 18 & 19. 2nd grade parents will be contacted if their child will be nominated for further testing in the spring.

Referrals will be accepted October 3- December 16, 2022. You may request a referral packet from Mrs. Nixon at snixon@conroeisd.net
