Family Update for September 7, 2020
First Week Activities Recap
It was great to see so many of you last week at our student drive thru days and also senior celebration drive thru. Check out some pictures below of our first week events.

Student Photo Makeup Day
On Wednesday, September 9th, we will have a student photo make up day from 1 – 5 p.m. This will take place out front of the school and is for anyone who has not had a picture taken yet.
Advisory sessions for September
We will have advisory on September 9th, 16th, and 23rd for this month. Advisory sessions are on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Students can find their advisory teacher on their schedules under 9th period. The teachers will have a Google Meet with their students for advisory.
Assignments
All work for the first week is due on September 9th at 11:59 p.m. Students are supposed to submit work through the teachers’ Google Classrooms.
Late Work Policy:
Work turned in up to one week late may receive up to a 10% penalty. Penalty for late work
beyond one week is subject to teacher discretion.
Late work policy does not apply to Advanced Placement, College Preparatory, and College in
the High School courses. Policies in these courses are subject to teacher discretion.
Exceptions to Late Work Policy:
*Students identified as McKinney-Vento, English Learners, or being without internet will be
given an additional week’s grace to turn in assignments. After the additional week, late work
policy will apply. Students with a 504 or Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will follow guidance
provided in their individual plan.
Chrome books
The office is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please sign in at the front door and go around to the window in the commons. We currently have a wait list for hot spots. Please contact Wendy Fox at wfox@stanwood.wednet.edu to be place on the wait list.
Library Hours
The library will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 8th-11th. Walk around the main building and sign in at the library hallway. Please don’t go through the main building to get to the library or else you have to sign in twice.
After September 11th, the library will be open on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Schedule Changes
Please send an email to your student’s counselor if you want to request a schedule change. Schedule changes are not made based on lunch, period, or teacher. All schedule change requests need to be made by September 17th, 2020.

Skyward Access
Skyward is our grading and attendance system for secondary students.
For this year, our grading scale has returned to the traditional scale, using grades A through D. Final grade between 50-59.9% will receive an "incomplete" and below a 50% will receive an F. Please check Skyward weekly and reach out with any concerns.

Attendance
Thank you for encouraging your students to attend their Google Meets. Remember you need to excuse your student's absence from their Google Meets.
Attendance procedures:
- At 2:15 p.m., a report of students marked absent for google meets from Skyward.
- An auto-email goes out to families at 5:15 p.m. if a student has been marked absent. There will be a form attached for parents to share what students worked on for the day.
- The following day, secretaries make phone calls to check in with families to let them know we did not hear from them &/or they didn't attend a meet all day, but might have filled out the daily check in form.
Student Distance Learning Protocols
Please have your student follow these guidelines when participating in distance learning.
- Do not falsify information about yourself or impersonate others online.
- Follow SHS Dress Code policy when participating in online meetings.
- Please make sure your video view is school appropriate when using the camera feature.
- If you choose a picture or word profile to represent you in the online platform, the picture or word needs to be appropriate.
- Use respectful behavior and language.
- Make sure you’re muted when not talking.
- Ask questions using chat.
- Think before you write.
- Stick to appropriate topic discussions.
- Send only appropriate video transmissions.
- Use only appropriate icon, emoji, and avatar submissions.
- Only the student (and a parent/guardian) should be visible during the Google Meet.
- The Google Meet is a virtual classroom. You should not be playing videos games or doing other things during your Google Meet other than paying attention to the teacher.
*The meetings are for educational purposes only.
Disrespect of these guidelines may result in being removed from the meeting.
