Jag E-News

Week of January 23, 2023

Our Spring Semester is in full swing as we prepare to wrap up our first Progress Report (PR 5) this Wednesday, January 25th. We are also preparing to kick off Course Selection this week and we hope that you will spend some time reviewing the information provided in this newsletter and by your student's counselor for all of the important updates and timelines.

Last week our girls and boys basketball teams wrapped up their seasons at the end of season tournament. Congratulations to all of our athletes and coaches on a great season. I want to give a big shout out to Coach Lee and the 8A Boys Basketball. The team played with heart and determination through double overtime, but fell short in the last few seconds. It as an incredible game and we are so proud of the team. Way to go Jags! Tennis and track season are right around the corner!

Throughout the week, our counselors have been busy preparing our students for course selection, we hosted our campus spelling bee, continued TELPAS tutorials, and our students are continuing to take their middle of year Ren360 assessments in reading and math to help us prepare for student learning that will take place throughout the rest of this semester. It's been a great few weeks and we are looking forward to the one ahead.

Sincerely,

Cholly Oglesby

Principal

Ren360 MOY Testing

As you may already know, FBISD uses Renaissance Star 360 Assessments (Ren360) to help teachers understand what students know and what they are ready to learn next. These assessments are administered during the fall, winter, and spring to monitor student growth and progress. The MOY Ren360 assessment window is January 17th – February 3rd. Students will be tested at school by their teachers in their ELA and Math classes. To support your child on this assessment, please:

  • Encourage them to do their best;
  • Eat a healthy breakfast each morning;
  • Get plenty of sleep at night.

Thank you for your partnership with us through this assessment process. Results of the Ren360 assessments will be available in Skyward at approximately the beginning of March. For more information about Star Assessments, visit the Renaissance parent webpage.

Attendance Boundary Process

Fort Bend ISD will engage the community in the attendance boundary planning process in the northwest and southeast areas of the district through a virtual public hearing process detailing three boundary scenarios. The virtual public hearing information will be released to the public on Friday, January 20, at 6 p.m. and remain available and open for public input through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 27. The public hearing video link and Thoughtexchange discussion links can be accessed at www.fortbendisd.com/attendanceboundaries beginning Friday, January 20, at 6 p.m.

All district stakeholders will be provided the opportunity to share feedback online through Thoughtexchange, a discussion management software tool, intended to bring people together to engage in dialogue in an anonymous fashion. The Thoughtexchange platform will open at 6 p.m. on January 20 and close at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 27. Once all feedback has been reviewed, district staff will take into consideration the meaningful public comment before a final proposal is made to the Board of Trustees.
