A Message from the Principal
As you may remember, our theme this year is #GrowTogether. We embrace this across the school for all - adults and students! In Second Step right now, all classes are learning about growth mindset and goal setting. Making mistakes, learning from others, and working to be the best you can be are all an important part of growth!
Part of Growing Together is supporting each student with a team. At Chain Lake, all kids are truly our kids. Adults across the building look out for all students - even those not technically in their class! Additionally, we know that your role as parents/guardians is essential for our Cheetahs as well. We appreciate and value your partnership, and it was wonderful to see so many of you at our Open House this week.
There is another opportunity coming up for you to engage with your child's team here at school. If you haven't yet already, you should soon see a Conference Sign-Up coming home from your child's classroom teacher. Conferences are the last week of October, and our goal is to connect with 100% of families. During Conference Week, students are released at 12:55pm, and our Book Fair will also coincide with Conference Week!
"Parents and teachers who work together are unstoppable!"
Warmly,
Ana

Renewal of School Program & Operations (SP&O) Levy
Did you know that state and federal funding alone don't cover the cost of all of the programs, services, and essential staff the Monroe School District provides for its students? We rely on funding from the local, voter-approved SP&O levy, which makes up over 14% of the district's total budget.
The four-year SP&O is set to expire at the end of the 2022 calendar year and Monroe School District will be asking voters this November to renew this critical levy. It is not a new tax.
Learn what this levy funds here: www.monroe.wednet.edu/levy2022
Lunch Accounts Balances - A message from our Kitchen
School staff are not allowed to discuss money (negative or otherwise) with students. Any negative balance is the adult's responsibility, not the child's. Also, this year we are back to "normal" so kids can buy seconds if they do not have a negative balance. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns.

A Note From the Library.....
This week in the library we are discussing genres, with our focus this month being on Scary and Fairytales, which is the genres for our all school reading contest, all students have to do is read a book from either of these genres and then fill out the questionnaire paper and turn it in to the library by the end of October, at the end of the month a lucky name will be drawn from each grade level to come select a prize from Mrs. S’s prize draw, there is no limit to how many entries a kid can do so long as they read a book for each entry. I’m excited to see how many entries come back this first month!
In Makerspace this week we have 4 projects laid out for creation station, a 3d Fall leaf tree project, 2 different color the number pictures, and the chance to decorate a bat (the bats will be used to help decorate the gym on the 28th for PTA’s fall family event) It's been so cool to see the creativity from the students.
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Swalwell
