South Football’s Impossible Dream Movie

South Football’s Impossible Dream explores the rise to glory of a team that competed in an epic battle known at the Jersey Shore as “The Greatest Game Ever Played.” On a bitter cold day in November 1969, No. 1 ranked Toms River High School South faced No. 2 ranked Middletown High School before thousands of fans for a mythical state championship. Rare film footage from the game will be shown publicly for the first time.

The film uncovers the techniques used by former Toms River South Head Coach, Ron Signorino, Sr., in the 1960s, to turn a losing football program into a powerhouse that racked up a 19-game winning streak. Coach Signorino is a local legend known for his deep understanding of the game, his ability to motivate his players, and his knack for analyzing game films to better understand his opponents.

DECEMBER 2022

We have amazing news on a musical note! Our very own High School South senior Jack Harjes has been accepted to perform on clarinet in the 2023 Music Educators Eastern Division Honors Band. Jack is one of only 21 clarinetists chosen from the entire northeast, comprising 12 states and Washington DC.. Jack will perform at the Music Educators Eastern Division Conference this April. The district congratulates Jack on achieving the highest band honor available in high school! He is only the second instrumentalist to attain this honor in our school district's history!

On the Physics front, turning the corner to lower B-wing this past week one would have seen the students from Mr. Hartzfeld’s 5th period Physics class in the hallway. Students were trying to get a bowling ball through "obstacles" after pushing it through the hallway with a broom. Students collected data from their trials. Students were engaged in this lab taking data from the experiment and calculating inertia. Thank you to Mr. Hartzfeld for giving our students a hands-on experience with an interesting and important topic in Physics.

We had a large group of students inducted into our National Honor Society this year! We are very excited to welcome them into this role and are excited to watch what they accomplish. Thank you to our advisor, Ms. Ryan, for all she does to support our students.

If you’ve ever had to give a presentation, you know that it can be very nerve racking. Mrs. Wycoff’s Creative Writing students were asked to present an expertise of theirs. YOU WOULDN’T BELIEVE the expertise of our students at South! We have an equestrian, a unicyclist, a bologna sandwich connoisseur and so much more! WE ROCK!

We are so grateful to be a part of each students’ journey and to continue to share our amazing experiences at South!
