Please note that Girls Basketball and Cheerleading sign ups went home last week and were emailed home this week. The deadline to sign up was today so that schedules could be processed. We are still in need of several coaches for teams. If you may be interested, please be sure to fill out a background check and contact BJ Best or Mrs. Barrett as soon as possible.

5th Grade Basketball and Cheerleading Eligibility Requirements

Scott County School District 2

Fifth Grade Extra-Curricular Academic Eligibility

The following academic guidelines will apply to all fifth grade students who participate in basketball or cheerleading during the 2016-2017 school year.

  1. Students must maintain passing grades (D or above) in all subjects to be eligible to participate in basketball and/or cheerleading.

  2. Progress reports will be run for participating students on Friday afternoon following lunch. The names of players/cheerleaders who have an “F” in one or more subjects will be reported to the Elementary Athletic Director.

  3. On Saturday:

  • Students WILL be allowed to participate in basketball games.

  • The AD will notify coaches of players/cheerleaders who are ineligible for the upcoming week.

  1. Ineligible players/cheerleaders WILL NOT be allowed to attend practices or participate in games the following week.

  2. Academically ineligible players/cheerleaders WILL NOT be allowed to participate in practices or games until eligibility requirements are met.

NOTE: Ineligibility is served week to week not game to game. For example, a player who receives a failing grade in math on Friday, November 3rd will be allowed to play on Saturday, November 4th, but he/she cannot practice the following week. The player has no failing grades on Friday, November 11th, but there are no games the following day. Since the player’s eligibility is restored, he/she can practice the week of November 14th AND participate in the game(s) scheduled for Saturday, November 19th. In this case, the player would miss no game time.

Friendship Salad Fun in Third Grade!

The month of November is a special time to celebrate togetherness, friendship, thankfulness, and one another. During a special celebration in the Vienna-Finley third grade classrooms, students enjoyed creating a Friendship Salad together. Students in Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Lucas, and Mrs. Broady's classes brought in fruit, prepared it and then enjoyed a Friendship Salad together.
