The Compass
"Unlock the Treasure in Every Child" - August 20, 2018
Meet the Teacher
Families will simply check in at the front of the school to receive class assignments. A map of the school will also be provided. Everyone is encouraged to move about the building and explore our school.
When checking in to classrooms, teachers will ask for families to complete student information sheet. The rest of the time will simply be spent talking to the teacher and learning about our school. A more formal presentation will be delivered during our Open House Night on September 5th.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Celebrations are an important part of life. They are the time we honor our accomplishments, share our learning, and celebrate our success. The number of celebrations within a school are plentiful. However, when personal celebrations such as a student’s birthday are added in, they can quickly detract from the academic goals we have set forth. As much as we like celebrating birthdays with special lunches, snacks, sweet treats, and balloons, these types of celebrations at Buckhorn Creek will not be held. Instead we will celebrate through a Buccaneer Bash.
On a child’s birthday, our Buccaneer Bash will begin with a special announcement on the morning news program or morning announcements, followed by a visit to the office to pick up a BCES birthday pencil. Classroom recognition will take place during the morning meetings.
In addition, the principal will host a monthly celebration in the media center for all students whose birthday fall within that month. During this time, the principal will read one of his favorite books from the media center to the students and host an activity with them. Students who have their birthdays during the summer months of June and July will be celebrated in May before the end of the school year.
Our birthday policy will allow parents to better manage their child's consumption of sugary treats, reduce exposure for students with life threatening allergies, and limit the disruption of valuable learning time.
