8th Grade Update
February 22, 2019
Dear 8th Grade Families,
We've reached the end of another short week here at Sacred Heart, and I'm realizing that I never sent out a Smore last week! These snow days seem to be throwing us all off our game a bit... whoopsies! To make up for it, check out the extra Valentines day photos I've included below. :)
8th grade has successfully completed our midyear Performance Series testing (hooray!) and we've finished our reading of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None (double hooray!). But that doesn't mean our learning is anywhere NEAR done. Stay tuned for some exciting upcoming projects and learning experiences....
This coming Thursday we will be holding our Black History Month Celebration in the theater at 2pm and all families are invited to join. We hope to see you there!
Love,
Ms. K
Hearing Back from High Schools
This is a sensitive and exciting time for all of us as high school acceptances begin to roll in. Ms. Heil hosted a chat with 8th grade this past week sharing with us some pro tips on navigating this crazy time of year. Some things to keep in mind...
- DO take a breath and celebrate your achievements in a respectful way. You earned them! This means that you can absolutely share where you've been accepted to (and we'd love for you to tell Ms. Heil/myself so we can keep track!) and feel excited, proud, nervous - and all the other feelings you'll no doubt encounter! - too. Be honest with yourself and others how you're feeling and embrace the highs with the lows. Regardless of acceptances, at the end of the day it's hard to think about going on separate adventures next year. Emotions are bound to run high. And that's ok!
- DON'T forget about your classmates. We're all in this together for better or worse. This means be mindful of their feelings and sensitivities and know that each one of us is on this roller coaster ride together. Check in with each other and offer encouraging words and celebratory high-fives as needed.
And last but certainly not least: Remember that everyone ends up where they're meant to be. Trust us. If you have your heart set on one school but are accepted to another, have faith that this is all part of a larger plan and you'll end up exactly where you'll shine and thrive. :)
We're all SO proud of each of you! <3
