Staff,
At this time, it is still too early to send out specific information about the staffing plan for next year.
Here is what we know at this time:
Our FTEs are the same as last year AND our Title 1 budget will be about 1/3 less.
We will keep you posted as we know more information.
Thanks for your patience as we navigate this,

BLACK HISTORY MONTH SHOWCASE 2024
To honor and celebrate Black History Month we are doing a school-wide project to showcase our learning in February. The 2024 theme for Black History Month is The Arts.
Every classroom and learning space door will be decorated to showcase student learning connected to this theme. This process should be a learning experience with your class. This could be part of your lessons during SEL time or with your buddy room. *Bonus points if you also connect to a read aloud or have an interactive component!*
Below is a list of Black artists and art genres you can dig into with your students. Please sign up for which topic/person your door will celebrate for Black History Month by Feb 9th.
Doors should be decorated by February 27th as we will be hosting special guests Feb 28th at an assembly. Moore is extending an invitation to Dr. Roberts and the DMPS cabinet!
Please reach out to Equity Team if you have any questions or need help finding resources for your theme! (Kelsey, Sydney, Nicole, Marijean, Jeanette, Bettina)
Soul Food Potluck:
Soul food is anything that you feel is good for your soul. It could a family recipe or a Tik Tok viral dish. Sitting around a table and sharing a communal meal has always been a special tradition within the black community. As we honor Black History Month we would like to do that at Moore. There will be a sign-up in the lounge next week.
Friendship Parties
Mary and I talked on Tuesday about friendship parties for the school. The parties will take place on February 16.
Here is some important information about the parties.....
-PFM is providing the snacks and drinks for each classroom. Snacks include:
Pirate’s Booty/Boom Chicka Pop/Skinny Popcorn/Smartfood
Treats - Both snack size
M&Ms - assorted
Hershey’s candy -assorted
K-2 - Juice Boxes / 3-5 - Capri Suns
The snacks will be delivered the day of the party.
-Each grade level will determine a time that works for their schedule
-Students are allowed to pass out valentine's cards, if that grade level agrees upon it. I have sent cards to the print shop, already. I will put them by the mailboxes for those students who may need them.
-Parents are welcome to join. Please make sure they are aware that not every party is at the same time and have them check with both teachers, so they are not lingering in the hallways.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Mandy

IB HIGHLIGHT:
Programme Development Plan:
Our Programme Development Plan is similar to an action plan. It helps the school focus on a specific element of the IB framework/philosophy.
Our Focus:
When students have learning opportunities that are both affirming and meaningful and are empowered by having agentic opportunities to evidence their learning, there will be an increase in student self-efficacy.

EMPATHY FOR CHILDREN'S MISBEHAVIOR
We all break the rules at times. We forget the rule, we don't know the rule, we think the rule is unfair, or we think we won't get caught. Recognizing that we break rules sometimes can help us empathize with children when they misbehave. For children, testing rules and limits is a normal part of development. Some children are more persistent in their testing, but all children, if they are learning, will make mistakes, actively experiment with rules, or simply act out.
Having empathy doesn't mean we let go of accountability; instead, we hold children accountable, but with empathy for why they might be misbehaving and faith that they can choose a better way to behave. In the process, we might just help them learn to manage their own behavior.
LOGICAL CONSEQUENCES
- Break it, fix it: consequence matches the misbehavior. For ex: student draws on desk, they clean it up; student says a rude comment to a peer, they apologize/write a letter.
- Loss of privilege: Consequence matches the misbehavior. For ex: misbehavior happens in the lunch room - the loss of privilege should take place in the lunchroom.
- Time-out: The break spot is not punitive, rather an opportunity for students to regain self-control. Pay attention to the student anxiety/risk-behavior cues to be pro-active and send students to "refill" or "take a break" prior to full escalation.
