GARDEN OF LEARNING-October 23
DIGGING INTO ACADEMICS
PUMPKINS! PUMPKINS! PUMPKINS!
We explored the farm and learn about farm animals, pumpkins, producers and consumers.
We read Pumpkin, Pumpkin and learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin.
We learned about Fall.
We will write informational pieces about pumpkins.
We opened our Pumpkin stand where...
we painted and colored pumpkins, we gave them price tags, we learned to add using coins, we made brochures,we did pumpkin addition.
We practiced addition and subtraction strategies.
We wrote sentences about pumpkins.
We learned about Fiction vs. Nonfiction and compared pumpkin and spider books.
We started a unit on SPIDERS. We learned all about spiders...those 8 - legged, 8 - eyed arachnids.
We learned to summarize and about story elements...characters, setting, events, beginning, middle, end.
We visited Savidge Farms.... we took a hayride, watched a pumpkin life cycle video, picked a pumpkin, went through the hay maze, played in the farmer playland, sifted corn, milked a pretend cow, petted animals, and took a lot of pictures!
Digging Deeper
We will learn more about Fall and do leaf investigations.
We will write informational pieces about pumpkins and finish a narrative about the farm.
We will continue to learn how to add coins in our Pumpkin stand and finish our brochures.
We will practice related addition and subtraction strategies and fact families.
We will learn about beginning, middle and end.
We will learn more about SPIDERS.
We will summarize and learn about story elements...characters, setting, events, beginning, middle, end.
We will begin a unit about Community Helpers.
We will celebrate Halloween with our Halloween Parade and Party.
Halloween Party and Parade
Halloween Party Agenda:
Start Party Centers 1:00-1:30
1:30 change into costumes
1:45 Parade
Approximately reconvene Centers 2:15-2:45
On Friday, October 30th we are having a Halloween Parade and Halloween Party in school. At 1:45 p.m. the children will show off their costumes in a parade around the school. Please join us along the bus route and in front of the school for the parade at 1:45. The parade will circle the building once. Please send your child’s costume in a large bag with his or her name on it. The children will change into their Halloween costumes before the parade. Please be sure your child can put on his or her costume with limited assistance. Please no heavy make-up, frightening costumes, or weapons. Under garments and light make-up can be worn to school.
If you wish to contribute an ingredient or item for our party, please sign up on Sign Up Genius. We have 24 students in our class. We are including healthy treats and non-edible goodie bags as part of our party fun. No nuts please. If you would like to supply materials to make a craft with our kids please e-mail me.
