Catching up with Mr. C

Delsea High School October 2, 2020

Hello from Delsea High School!

Dear Delsea Community,

I want to thank you for all the cooperation you have given us in making our remote opening a success. We are excited for the return of students to the building and I am sure you have many questions. I hope this letter answers many of your questions, but please contact us if you have further concerns.

Hybrid Return to School

When the students make their physical return to school, state mandated rules and regulations are going to require the high school to divide the students into two separate groups: Cohort A and Cohort B. The cohorts were designed to allow for social distancing and the safest environment for our students and teachers. You can access your student’s cohort via Oncourse. Below is a sketch of what the week will look like when we return to school in a hybrid fashion.

Cohort A - weekly schedule:

MONDAY and THURSDAY Your student will report to school for live, in-person learning with their teachers.

TUESDAY and FRIDAY Your student will stay home and participate in live, synchronous, online learning activities with their teachers.

WEDNESDAY All students will stay home and participate in live, online, synchronous learning activities with the teachers.

Cohort B - weekly schedule:

TUESDAY and FRIDAY Your student will report to school for live, in-person learning with their teachers.

MONDAY and THURSDAY Your student will stay home and participate in live, synchronous, online learning activities with their teachers.

WEDNESDAY All students will stay home and participate in live, online, synchronous learning activities with their teachers.

Cohort C - weekly schedule:

MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY Your student will report to school for live, in-person learning with their teachers.

WEDNESDAY All students will stay home and participate in live, online, synchronous learning activities with their teachers.

Cohort A or B Remote - weekly schedule

All cohort A or B Remote students will stay home and participate in live, online, synchronous learning activities with their teachers. Cohort A or B Remote students will also have dedicated times to meet with their teachers from 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm.

All students

Each day, after lunch, all students will have access to individual teachers for questions and other meetings that may be necessary. This time can be used for tutoring, office hours, guided practice, small group instruction, individual teacher feedback, or completion of learning activities. Students can request time with the teacher through “You Can Book Me.” Students are encouraged to use time outside of school hours, as they would any other school year, to complete assignments. See below for more information with regard to class times and schedules. Keep in mind information from the State of New Jersey and Center for Disease Control continue to update and change. As such, our instructional plans may need to adjust. We are all looking forward to the day when we are back in school for a “regular day” and following a “regular schedule.” Knowing that this is not possible right now, we will continue to gather information, assess what is happening, and make the safest and most educationally sound choices for all involved. Thank you so much for your continued support and please do not hesitate to contact the office with any concerns. We wish all our students and parents the best for a safe and productive “physical” return to school.

*** Students at home should continue to update their daily attendance via OnCourse. ***
