Shooting Sports
Needing Instructors!
Adams County Shooting Sports Program is in need of Instructors for next year! If you are interested please contact Julie at the Adams County Extension Office.
A Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Update Session is scheduled for late October in Broken Bow. It will be held October 24th at the Custer County Fairgrounds in Broken Bow. The early bird deadline to register for the Broken Bow training is October 14th.
The time has come to provide an update for all Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors who received their training in 2013 or before. Over the years there have been numerous curriculum changes, updates and additions, with some major curriculum adjustments in the last few years.
These Update Sessions are for adult or apprentice 4-H volunteer instructors who have previously attended a 4-H instructor training workshop in 2013 or prior years. These are an update for existing instructors, NOT a training for new instructors. You MUST be a currently enrolled Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports volunteer leader in your county. Instructors have the option of completing an update in two disciplines during the day.
Discipline updates that will be offered during the day include rifle, shotgun, archery, pistol, and muzzleloader. There is a minimum number of participants needed to offer these disciplines at the session. Participants will learn under expert instruction from members of the Nebraska State 4-H Shooting Sports Training Team.
A paid registration fee by October 14th guarantees participant a spot at the session providing that discipline session is not full. Early bird registration by October 14th is $30 for session #1 or #2 separately, or $50 for both sessions. Late registration fee, after October 14th, is $40 for Session #1 or #2 separately, or $80 for both sessions. Fee includes program materials and lunch on Saturday. It does not include lodging. Participants are requested to bring their own mask and hand sanitizer. Face coverings are recommended to be worn.
Environmental Ed & Earth Science
Agronomy Projects
As crop harvest approaches, it is a good time to consider creating an agronomy exhibit that you may show at next year’s fair. These projects provide an excellent opportunity to learn the requirements in producing a crop. If you or someone in your family raised a field crop this year, simply sit down and create a two-page report about the procedures required to grow the crop. Then fill a gallon container of the grain or select ten grain ears, (corn or milo), for display and you are done. Stop by or call the Adams County Extension Office if you would like more information on these projects.
Largest Ear of Corn Contest
We plan to continue this contest, with sponsorship of a cash prize to the winners. Now is a good time to start to think about next year’s project. If a 4-H’er grew a corn crop or helped a member of their immediate family grow a corn crop this year, then you can exhibit a collection of ten corn ears at the 2021 Adams County Fair. The contest will have two classes, one for yellow corn and one for white corn. Call the Extension Office if you would like more information about this contest and project.
