Welcome New Staff

We wanted to take a moment to congratulate you all on becoming part of the Wright City West staff. We are absolutely thrilled to have you all joining our team next year. This newsletter has a ton of information you need in the coming months.

We can I get in my room?

Part of our building is used for summer school. Once teachers check out, cleaning begins. As rooms are cleaned and ready, emails will be sent out to the staff. If hallways are closed an email will be sent and at that time no staff will be allowed in the building. After summer school concludes the rooms used will be cleaned. Again, emails will be sent out to let you know what rooms are ready when. I recommend calling to check if you aren't sure before driving out.

Reading Workshop Bootcamp

July 6-8

This is a mandatory training for all new hires to West. We adopted the new version of Lucy Calkins Reading Workshop this past year. The current staff received a week long training from Lucy's team. These three days will be packed with information you need to know on the framework for the workshop, as well as what you will be teaching.

If you absolutely cannot attend please let me know as soon as possible. We will need to schedule something for you at a later date.

Curriculum Writing

July 11-15

This is an optional curriculum writing event. All those that attend will receive a stipend. Our goal is to take the newly adopted Missouri Standards and write curriculum using our current resources. Each person in the grade level will work on a different subject area. We will begin together with a kickoff and spend the remainder of the week working vertically to write curriculum for all subjects. We will also begin working on editing our summative assessments and creating formative assessments.

Most have let me know that they are coming or had vacation plans. Please let me know as soon as possible so I can turn names into our assistant superintendent, Jennifer Hecktor.

Kagan Training

July 18-21

All new staff is registered for Kagan Cooperative Learning training from July 18-21st.

Below is the information you will need. If you absolutely can't attend please let me know as soon as possible. We will have to find another training during the year to send you to.
