SDUSD Math Placement Process Update for Parents
The San Diego Unified School District traditionally administers a math placement test to 8th-grade students in the spring for use with math placement in 9th grade the following year. The district has made the decision to not administer the test this Spring. Currently, student placement recommendations will be made using current grades and teacher recommendations. PL may also utilize a site-created assessment later this spring. The district will distribute a parent letter with additional information during the week of May 8th. We will continue to communicate any changes or revisions to the process.
State Standardized Testing Update - Students To Download Testing Browser
The State of California is moving forward with standardized testing this Spring. Students will be able to take the test at school or at home. Students will need the necessary software on their computers to participate on or before Friday, March 19th. Click this link to learn how.
Options are available for families who need a computer.
The Interim is a practice test all students take. It helps them learn how the testing process works. The SBAC is the actual standardized test itself. Students must have the correct software on their computer prior to taking either test.
Information on dates will be distributed soon!
Social Emotional Support and Well-being Resource Now Available
On March 1st. Point Loma Cluster parents explored the concept of Social Emotional Well Being the role the Pandemic (and the related changes) may have upon us and our children. We learned healthy ways to support your own social emotional health and well-being. Experts from the SDUSD Mental Health Resource Center presented strategies for parents and share connections to the work taking place in our schools.
Please click this link to download the Parent Resource Guide slide deck.
We would like to thank Janelle Chiu, Supervising Licensed Mental Health Clinician with SDUSD Mental Health Resource Center and Yuka Sakamoto, Interim Program Manager with SDUSD, Mental Health Resource Center for presenting to our families and staff.
Counseling Corner
Counselors will begin virtual meetings with students who are new to our school. If you are new to the community cluster, your child will be invited to participate in the Correia Connect Newcomer Group. In this group, students will be able to meet others who are also new to the cluster and have opportunities to ask questions about our school and community.
These Zoom meet-ups will be student-led by Correia Ambassadors with the help of the counselors. Our Ambassador students are creating fun activities to help students get to know one another. We will be sending the Zoom link to your child's email. We will have our
first meeting next week during flex-time, so classes will not be impacted by these activities. Please remind your children to check their school email for the meeting link.
At Correia Middle School we recognize that during these unprecedented times families are struggling and their children are struggling at school as well. Experiencing this first hand as educators and parents we truly understand the difficulties of our current educational arrangement. We want you to know that as a community and a family, you are not alone and we are here to help.
If you have any questions please contact your child's counselor.
