Happenings from April 2018
First Grade Research
Using the Guided Inquiry Method first grade conducted their research about how transportation, recreation and communication was in the past. This process took four weeks. They learned about timelines, staff member's past in first grade and utilized the online database PebbleGo to gain even more knowledge. They also had hands on experiences using a feather pen and paint, spelling with ABC blocks and trying to write with chalk on a chalkboard.
Kinder Research
Kinder learned all about three different sea creatures for their research. They learned about sea turtles, whales and sharks. They also learned how to take notes and cite their sources.
Shadow Puppet Presentation
Matt Sandbank visited our campus and enthralled the campus with his imaginative shadow puppetry. Matt is from Austin and owns the Shadow Factory. The students loved the creative and funny shows he performed.
Literary Field Trip
Utilizing Google Earth, second grade went on a virtual field trip to Italy after reading the book Big Anthony by Tomie DePaola. This virtual field trip was based on all of the locations Big Anthony visits throughout the story. The students were able to stand next to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and see the beautiful architecture in Florence and go to other beautiful locations in Italy.
Happy Fiesta!
Our reading partner, Rowdy, was feeling pretty festive during Fiesta in April. Sadly, we will only have one more visit from Rowdy because he will be moving to Nebraska next year. He has been coming to our campus for seven years. We shall miss him so much.
National Library Week
Our hearts were filled with love from the students and staff during National Library Week. We loved all of the signs, notes and cards people took the time to make.
