Walden Weekly

School News You Can Use!

August 21, 2020
Good Afternoon Walden Families,

We had a wonderful first week of school with our Wildcats! It was great seeing our students this past Wednesday in-person, followed by the beginning of 109 Online. The first two days of learning this week were devoted to building a class community, getting to know one another, and developing trusting relationships. Next week, in addition to continuing to connect, we will begin our content-based instruction with math, reading, writing, and more! Please look for an email from your classroom teacher on Sunday with information about the week.

We very much appreciate all of your support at home as we transition back into school and learn how to navigate our new schedules. Developing routines with children is so important and we thank you for doing your best at home to help your children prepare for each day. Enjoy the beautiful weekend and we will see you back next week!

Thank you!

Seesaw Updates

Our K-2 students are using Seesaw as our communication tool this year. This app is perfect for our younger learners and Walden students have been using Seesaw for many years on their chromebooks and iPads. As a district, we are currently experiencing some minor issues syncing our Specials teachers into Seesaw. This should be resolved in a few days. Your classroom teacher may share a few extra links or information on behalf of the Specials teacher in the meantime.

Communication Information

We definitely understand that parent-teacher communication is very important this year since we are working as a team more than ever to support your child's education. Many times during the day, our teachers are very busy on Zoom with students or other teachers, preparing videos, collaborating with colleagues and instructional coaches, and hopefully finding time to eat their lunches. If they are not able to respond to your email or phone call immediately, they will definitely be in touch as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Enrollment Information

We understand that some Walden families are exploring different options for school this year. If your family would like to "unenroll" your child, please send an email to Katy Ruocco at kruocco@dps109.org. The email should include:

  • student(s) name, grade, school here in 109
  • will the student(s) be
- moving - within Illinois
- moving - out of state

- moving - out of the country

- not moving - will be attending a private school in Illinois
- not moving - will be home schooled

Families are welcome to re-enroll during the school year as long as they still meet our residency requirements.

Health Forms (2nd Posting)

Please make sure that you reach out to our school nurse, Ruth Bredemeier, with your health forms with immunizations. Also, for all kindergarten students and new students to Walden, we need additional dental and vision forms. Please be in touch with Mrs. Bredemeier at rbredemeier@dps109.org with questions!
