Student Spotlight
The First Day of School
By: Keion Rothschild
Everyone of us have been a new student at one point in our lives and have experienced what I call the "newbie blues". The night before enrichment I had so many emotions from excitement to fear. I picked two different outfits, I double checked my backpack and schedule. Although my brother was already a student at VOCS it took on a whole new meaning for me to also be apart of this family. I had to find my own place in this wonderful community that I have watched from a distance.
As I walked through the double doors chills ran up my spine, because I did not know what to expect. Although I had never been a student here I heard a lot of good things about it. I was was worried about the teachers but all that went away once I met Mrs. Pam. Once we started talking we immediately had a connection because of her funny sense of humor. It worked out so well because I have always wanted a funny teacher. As my day progress I felt like I was a part of Vist Oaks all along, I meet so many teachers and students. I enjoyed all of my classes as well as my teachers but my all time favorite class was Art. I love to create and having Mrs. Gina who is really kind and sweet was an amazing bonus. By the way she is a good artist too! I must say being at Vista Oaks has been nothing shy of great! I now look forward to coming to campus every week with excitement.
Thank you Mrs. Amy for this opportunity to share my first day :)
Turn Markers Into Energy
Your Junior Leadership Team is coordinating a special program at our school in conjunction with Crayola. It’s called Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing program devised to repurpose used markers rather than sending them to landfills!
The ColorCycle program has repurposed more than 70 tons of expended markers in the United States and Canada since 2013, and uses the most advanced plastic conversion technologies available today to make wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles as well as to generate electricity that can be used to heat homes, cook food, and power vehicles.
All around Vista Oaks, students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house - even non-Crayola brands! Highlighters and dry erase markers can also be included. Drop-off boxes will be located in the Art Room and the Oak Room for your child to deposit the markers.
Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can continue to keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.
Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—ColorCycle it!
