Hello from the principal's desk!

Feb 25, 2019
A quick one here, as I will be sending out a hard copy for March next week. Just wanted to highlight a couple of SUPER important things going on this week...
- Golden Sneaker contest - started today, goes through March 8th. This program is from Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools, and tries to get families to come to school by walking, riding or carpooling. Every day teachers will ask kids how they got to school and how they plan to get home. We then find the classroom with the highest percentage of walking, riding or carpooling and give them the Golden Sneaker award! We do this activity for three reasons - 1. It is good for our bodies to get exercise, 2. It is safer when we reduce car congestion around our schools and 3. It is better for the world to have less greenhouse gases emitted by cars.
- Title 1 Family Night - see the flyer below. We have our very own teachers giving lessons to families about how they can help their children! I hear this all the time from families, that they want extra help on Common Core. Tomorrow night is your chance! We have dinner and childcare provided for free, please brave the rain and come. We will go from 6:15 - 7:45, tomorrow night, Feb 26th. Meet in the MPR.
- Cultural Voices - This annual tradition to celebrate Black History Month will be on Wednesday morning, Feb 27th, at 8:45 in the MPR. Every grade level has something prepared, and they will present up on stage over the hour. I can assure you it is great, and will also be crowded, so if you plan on coming, get a seat early.
- Ruby's Got Talent - We have our annual showcase of talent this Friday night at 6:30 in the MPR. Come watch comedians, dancers, singers and musicians entertain the audience! Should be a great night!
