Our Community
We are prepared to welcome students to school tomorrow.
As you already know, the Harrison community has sustained extensive damage resulting from last week's devastating tornado. Many families have been impacted. Staff members have been impacted.
We are here to support the many students who have been directly impacted, meaning their home has been deemed structurally unsound. They may be living with neighbors, family, in a hotel, or another location.
There is no doubt the depth of the trauma that our Harrison families have endured. Likewise, neighbors and families who live in close proximity whose homes were spared have also experienced trauma. It is very important that we are sensitive to students who are best friends, play on the same sports teams, attend community events together.
Our goal tomorrow and moving forward is to support our students and their families. Tomorrow, our buses will run their typical routes. Expect delays. It is possible children riding on the bus may see the tornado's devastation. If needed, take time to listen and acknowledge what your children are seeing and feeling. We will do the same. Our counselors will be standing by ready to support in any way needed. They have put together resources for our teachers to use.
Our opening days can still be and should be filled with fun activities, building tours, and ice breaker get-to-know you games. We will have an added layer of sensitivity and responsiveness as we prepare to receive students tomorrow.
As adults, it is often difficult for us to understand why this happened and it can be especially challenging for children to comprehend. We share your feelings. Should you need any support, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here for you.
School Lunches
Parent Volunteers
This is until further notice. Thanks, everyone and please reach out for clarification.
Back to School Document Packets will be distributed on Wednesday, September 8th. Please return all forms no later than Monday, September 13th. Thank you.
School Info
School begins at 7:45 AM.
The late bell rings at 8:00 AM. Students arriving to school after 8:00 AM will be marked tardy.
School ends at 2:25.
LobbyGuard
We will continue to use LobbyGuard in our Welcome Lobby. Our main office staff will continue to scan your government-issued photo identification and the software will conduct an on-the-spot background check before a visitor is permitted entry into the school. We are delighted to welcome School Resource Officer (SRO) Michael Minniti to PVS. Although these systems and personnel do much to strengthen general security on our properties and in our facilities, you can assist us by providing safe environments in our Parent Drop Off and Parent Pick Up lines. Here are some guidelines:
Dropping off your student for school?
- Drop off occurs at the front of the building, from 7:45 AM - 8:00 AM
- Please do not arrive prior to 7:45 AM. Our teachers and staff need space in the car line to access the Cedar Road parking lot
- Students should not be dropped off prior to 7:45 AM. There is no staff on duty to supervise them. Drop off begins at 7:45 AM
- Parents and guardians are to remain in their vehicle during the drop-off process and leave the property accordingly after your child has exited.
- Please arrange your car seating so students are exiting from the driver's side of the car. Students crossing in front of cars is not safe. It's okay for children to sit in the back seat; thank you.
Is your child parent pick-up at the end of the school day?
Pleasant Valley students who ride the bus home are dismissed at 2:25 PM
An announcement will be made at 2:20 PM to dismiss parent pick-up students.
Parent pick-up is located in the Welcome Lobby.
All cars are to park in designated parking spots. Parking next to the curb is not permitted.
Parents will enter the school through the Welcome Lobby to sign out their child for pick up. If there is a large number of students participating in parent pick-up, the sign-out sheet will be located outside of the main entrance.
Parents picking up their children will be able to exit after signing out their children.
Please be aware that traffic entering or exiting the school parking lot may be stopped to accommodate bus dismissal. Once the boarded buses have left the school, car traffic will be allowed to enter and exit.
Placements, Schedules, & Supply Lists
Schedules: Schedules will be viewable in the Realtime parent portal. Teachers will be listed by subject as our PVS students are instructed by multiple academic and special area teachers throughout the day.
Supply Lists: Teachers will have their supply lists posted on their webpages. Please visit the webpages to see what your student will need.
- The sixth grade teachers have compiled one supply list applicable to all sixth graders. Please click on the link to view, SIXTH GRADE SUPPLY LIST.
Off, Away, & Invisible All Day
Communication/Electronic Device Misuse: The use of privately owned technology by a pupil in the educational setting during the school day or on the school bus is not permitted. All wireless and cellular telephone devices/smartwatches must be turned off and stored in a locker or book bag, inaccessible to the student during school hours. Disruption of the teaching and learning process will result initially in confiscation of the device. Further disruptions will result in disciplinary actions.
*Cell phones/smartwatches/personal devices are to be off, away, and invisible all day.
Thank you for cooperation and support.
