Grandparents Day 2016
“Young people need something stable to hang on to — a culture connection, a sense of their own past, a hope for their own future. Most of all, they need what grandparents can give them.” Jay Kesler
Friday, Sept. 16th Cottonwood would like to celebrate the Grandparents of our students. Please know that Grandparents can be maternal, paternal, neighborly or some other relation.
Grandparents of K-2 students are invited to join us from 9-11.
From 1-3, grandparents of students in grades 3-5 are welcome.
Afternoon Kindergarten Grandparents can come from 1-2.
During our time together, we will be in the classrooms, library, recess and cafeteria. Plan to have a snack, color, play, take pictures and share stories with your Grand.
A few years ago, we celebrated all our Grandparents at the same time and welcomed about 300 extra people into our building. It was a great day, but a little crowded. Since we learn from our experiences, we decided to break the day into two sessions so that we can move freely around the hallways and have a little more room in the parking lot. We look forward to sharing our staff and building with our visitors.
If you haven't already, please RSVP to your classroom teacher or Mrs. Rooks rookss@usd385.org with the number of people attending so we have plenty of cookies and punch to go around.

During counselor time, we are working on friendship. The children are learning the characteristics of a good friend. We are also role playing how to make and keep friends.
I will be starting friendship groups at lunch time. If you feel like your child would benefit, please let me know.
We will also start talking about responsibility. We will incorporate that with our friendship unit and making responsible choices during the day.
I am working on getting to know all the new children here at Cottonwood. We will also be finishing up our new student groups. If your child needs any additional support with their transition to Cottonwood please let me know and I will help them in any way possible.
Banana Splits-I will be sending home permission slips for Banana Splits soon. This is a divorce support group for students in grades 2-5 that I do here at school. I do one group for each of those grade levels. If I miss your child’s name please let me know and I will get them a permission slip. If you have any questions about the group please contact me.
Happy Fall!
Regards-
