Emergency Drills
During the past few weeks, we have been educating our students about emergency procedures. Next week, we will be conducting district-wide emergency drills in order to give our students and staff an opportunity to practice what they know. We have taken great care to make sure our conversations about this topic are age appropriate, and we want you to be aware of our drills so you can visit with your children at home, too.
On Thursday, Sept. 29th, Hawks View will be practicing a Lock Down Drill in the morning. Other district administrators, and possibly the Sherwood Police, will be on-site to observe and provide feedback for our drill. If you are around our campus during the time of our drill, please do not be alarmed by the increased police or admin presence.
If you arrive during a drill, you will not be allowed to enter and students will not be allowed to exit until the drill concludes.
For more information about our district’s emergency preparedness and to learn how you can be best prepared in the event of an emergency, please visit our webpage:
Parent Contact Information Updates
Please be sure to update your contact information as changes occur. We need phone (home and work) numbers as well as email addresses. The majority of our school and district communication is by email. You may update your information on ParentVue, or contact the office with any changes.
Picture Day is Tuesday, September 27th
Picture envelopes came home via backpack mail this week. You may also order your pictures online. For more information, please click here. Students will need to have their envelope with them when they have their picture taken. Late orders are not accepted, unless you are paying online.
Dinner Night Out @ Chipotle!
Our next dinner night out is September 28th, at Chipotle in Sherwood. Flyers will be coming home via backpack mail next week, or click on the link here. 33% of sales will be donated back to Hawks View Elementary!

Hawks View Fun Run
The Hawks View Fun Run will take place on Friday, September 30 and includes our PreK-5th grade students. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and we appreciate your support! Envelopes and PledgeStar information came home today in backpacks. Families are invited to attend and cheer on their child(ren). We will have several check in tables down on the field. Parents should visit one of the tables to sign in and receive a visitor sticker. We are looking forward to this fun event!
Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Don’t forget sunscreen and water bottles!
School Meals: Free & Reduced and Expanded Income Eligibility Programs
We recognize the impact that returning to paid school meals this year can have on family budgets, and encourage parents/guardians to complete an eligibility application to determine if your family qualifies for free or reduced meals -- even if your family may not have been eligible under federal guidelines in past years. The Oregon Expanded Income Eligibility Group (EIG) supports families who do not qualify for meal benefits using federal income guidelines. It provides meal benefits to households with incomes above 185%, but not exceeding 300%, of the federal poverty guidelines.
To apply for either Federal or EIG free/reduced meal eligibility, please complete the Online Free and Reduced Meal Application. For more details on income-based eligibility, please click the image below to access the Federal and Oregon Expanded Income Eligibility charts for the 2022-23 school year.
Thank You OnPoint Credit Union

SSD Parents - We want your feedback!
The Sherwood School District is conducting a community engagement process as we assess how to best meet the needs of our students and families. At last night’s Back to School Night, we shared a short presentation about this process, as well as an opportunity to complete a parent/guardian feedback survey.
If you were unable to attend last night’s presentation, the information can be found here.
To complete our parent/guardian survey, please visit bit.ly/3DmQiCh or scan the QR code to the right to access our online survey. To complete the survey in Spanish, please visit bit.ly/3Su2OUC.
Head Lice News
Hawks View has had confirmed cases of head lice in various classrooms. Please take the time to check the hair of your students and family members on a regular basis. Head lice is a community concern, as they can be transferred from hats and clothing in stores, seat backs at restaurants, theater chairs, seats in vehicles, and stuffed animals, just to name a few ways to be exposed to lice. Please notify the office if your child has lice, so we can take steps to prevent an outbreak. This information is kept confidential. Visit our district website (scroll down) for more information on lice, and links to resources. If you have questions, please call the nursing staff located in the SHARE Center at 503-825-5488, or the Hawks View office.
OHSU Covid Testing
We are partnering with OHSU again this year to offer free, weekly COVID-19 testing for students. Participation in this program is completely optional and offered regardless of vaccination status. Participating students will drop off spit samples in pre-labeled tubes at school each week, whether they have symptoms or not, and those samples will be sent to OHSU for testing. Many aspects of the screening program will remain the same as last year, with a few changes to make it easier for parents and students. For more information, please access the District Update.
