Overview of KET's Services
To followup on our recent contact I wanted to share these resources from our KET EncycloMedia services plus stand-alone sites that can help make the concepts you are presenting come alive and engage your students in fun and exciting ways. Take time to explore and enjoy them yourself!
Note: A good example of some of the resources found in our services is the image to the left of this text by Edgar Degas entitled "Dancers in the Wings" (1834-1917). It is from the over 4,000 image collection provided by the Bridgeman Art Library located in PBS Learning Media.

Below this entry are some examples of some of the most used resources found on this site.
2015 KET Young Writers Contest
We are now accepting entries to the 2015 KET Young Writers Contest!
Ignite your students' imaginations! The Young Writers Contest is a great opportunity for students to write for an authentic audience. While a parent or guardian must sign each child’s official entry form, stories may be submitted by teachers and official prizes can be awarded at a school event. Each story that meets contest guidelines will be read by a panel of judges and each child that enters will receive an official certificate after the winners have been selected.
We now have two separate contests! Due to the overwhelming popularity of our 2014 Short Story Contest, we have decided to continue the contest for 4th and 5th graders this year. We will also have the illustrated story contest for children in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Both of these contests begin on January 15th and end on April 11th. Please note that illustrated stories must be mailed or hand delivered to KET, while short stories must be typed and submitted online. Short story entry forms are to be mailed or hand delivered separately.
Be sure to read the complete rules for the contest(s) before you get started because there have been a number of changes. Previous winners, contest rules, entry forms and rubrics for both contests are available now at: http://www.ket.org/writerscontest/
Please contact us at writerscontest@ket.org if you have any questions about entering the contest. We look forward to hearing from you!

Discovery Education Streaming
This overview looks mainly at two new features, the QuickList, and Board Builder.
(Note: You must have a Discovery account to look at the service and you will need your school's "passcode" to create one. To obtain this passcode either check with your building or district technology coordinator or contact me via email with your school name and I will send it to you. )
This new handy feature of Discovery Ed. allow you to quickly "bookmark where resources are located by putting them in a "thumbnail filmstrip" display at the bottom of the webpage. This allows you to pull that resource up quickly or even drag the resource into a board builder board you are constructing. Once in the quicklist the resource can also be placed in "My Content" , other builder tools, or assigned to a class or student. It is so quick and easy!
Discovery Ed. Board Builder
Here is a link to a board I have constructed as an example. (Note: You must have a Discovery account to be able to access this or any board within the service.)
