REVISED Last day of student attendance
A Note from Ms. Ellison
Dear Glen Grove Community,
I want to send a HUGE thank you to the PTA for all of their work the past few weeks. The Fall parties and photo area are a huge highlight for our students. Additionally, the Character Counts food drive is a really important part of who we are as a community. A community that gives back and helps the collective. I’m proud of the students for their dedication to this project and, in case you were wondering, they did select the inflatable unicorn for my Halloween costume!
I’d like to share some big news regarding our lunch procedures and protocols. With the support of the district and Glen Grove teachers, we were able to develop a plan to keep students six feet apart at lunch. This requires additional staffing and some students eating in classrooms. I am excited to share that with the financial support of the district and flexibility of the teachers, we will start this new procedure on November 2nd. This means that we will not have close contacts during lunch and we will be able to keep more students in school consistently.
Finally, I want to highlight a part of our newsletter that focuses on community and culture. A team of teachers is working with students, educators, and families to highlight the amazing diversity and traditions in our school. Please check out the Dia De Los Muertos section of the newsletter for some great read alouds and student videos on this tradition celebrated by some of our Glen Grove families.
Thanks for your partnership! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any comments, questions, or concerns.
Thanks,
Kate

Last Day of School is now Friday, May 27
At the October 18th Board of Education meeting, the Board approved the following change to the 2021-2022 calendar:
Due to construction projects which include renovations to half of our classrooms over the summer, the construction managers have told us that all classrooms and buildings must be vacated entirely on Friday June 3 to help ensure the on-time opening in the fall. The district has decided that May 31 - June 2 will be reserved for teachers and staff to clear out their work spaces and to identify items that need to be packed, labeled and stored. These days were chosen because the district does not want teachers to be without the materials they need for students while students are still in the classrooms.
From the Nurse's Office
If you need any help or support during this difficult time of the pandemic, please do not hesitate to call Jennifer Hastings, RN, our Health Coordinator, at (847) 657-2394.
All student absences should be called into the health office no later than 7:45 a.m. at (847) 657-2394. The school has voicemail so parents can call the health office to leave messages at any time.
If your children come to school after 7:45 a.m. please have them come through the front office. This is for the safety of all of our students.
Don't forget to pack a water bottle!

Reminder for 4th and 5th Graders
The last day to register for Battle of the Books (BOB), a Glenview Public Library program, is Wednesday, November 17th. Parents, please register your child using the online form: Paper copies of the registration form are also available at the Youth Service at the library. Each student must register separately. Please include the names of all team members—as well as the team name—when registering. Teams should be complete at time of registration. Ideally, each team should have 4 members, but teams of 3 are also acceptable. Mrs. Duby and Glenview Public Library staff are happy to help interested students find teams. The Orientation Meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 6, 2021 from 7:00-8:00 pm at the Glenview Public Library. Teams compete in one meet each. Meet dates run from January 18 – March 10, 2022. Here is this year’s book list. Paper copies are available at the Glenview Public library. Glen Grove School has a collection on Destiny Discover for students.
Overdue Books
Overdue notices are sent weekly to students' email accounts. Students can check their Destiny Discover accounts at any time to see what they currently have checked out or overdue. Parents receive overdue notices once a month and do not need to respond to notice unless they have a question about overdues. Books that are 60 days overdue will be considered lost. We are asking parents to pay for lost books with a check payable to Glen Grove School. If the book(s) is found within the current school year, we are happy to refund the money. The cost of the book(s) is included in the overdue notices. Any questions, please contact the LRC Associate, Mrs. Pam Duby, she is happy to assist you.
Thank you, PTA, for the wonderful Fall Festival activities and photo booth!
