SASD 4K Family Newsletter
Grow. Play. Learn.
January 1st, 2023
What does the New Year mean to you? To us, it means fresh starts, the beginning of something new. We had a busy December in the SASD 4K classrooms and we have lots in store for the coming months! Students are learning about the farm and will move into learning about the jungle and desert. They are learning that letters have sounds and sounds make words. They are learning to share and take turns.
Celebrating the New Year on January 1 is a human-created civil event, not a natural, seasonal or astronomical one. And yet nature cooperates to make January 1 a satisfying time to start anew as the days begin to get longer again.
We want to wish you and your family well this 2023!

Jacob Kleven Information
We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Jacob Kleven, SASD Food Service Director. Jacob's funeral will be at noon on Saturday, January 7th, at St. Ann's Parish. There will be visitation from 9 am until the time of the service. All are welcome and encouraged to stay for the funeral Mass and luncheon following. The family appreciates all the support that they have received so far. Shaun Kleitsch is taking on the role of communication coordinator for the Kleven family. Shaun's email address is: shaun.kleitsch@stanns-school.org.
Kids4Kids is raising money to support the Kleven family who lost their beloved husband/father Jacob, in a winter storm car accident this past Christmas. Tonya and the girls will greatly need our financial support. If you would like, you can donate electronically by clicking on the link below, or you can mail a check to PO Box 141, Stoughton, WI 53589. Please make the check out to Kids4Kids and put "Kleven Family" in the memo. Every dollar donated will go directly to the Kleven family.

SASD Inclement Weather Procedures for 2022-23 School Year
As we are transitioning to winter, it is important to monitor the weather and its impact on school operations. Each year, it is not uncommon for snow, ice, or cold to lead to a district-wide school closure.
While last year we had the procedures and technology equipment in place to consider turning snow days into virtual days, this year we will use traditional “snow day” inclement weather procedures, as are most other Dane County districts.
If the need for snow days this year becomes excessive, then the district will consider other options, as it has in previous years, to ensure we meet the Department of Public Instruction’s required minutes for instruction.
In the event of inclement weather, we will communicate to families and staff in the following ways by 6 a.m.:
Phone call, text message, and email
Local radio or TV station in the school closing information
District website
District social media channels
We will use these communication methods if there is a two-hour delay or any other impacts to the school day.
How to Receive Texts from SASD
If you’d like to receive texts from SASD, use your mobile device to text “Y” or “Yes” to our district’s short code number, 67587. If this is unsuccessful, most likely your phone number is not accurate in Infinite Campus. Send us an email at info@stoughton.k12.wi.us, and we'll help you out. Thank you for your commitment to the education of our children and for your flexibility amid Wisconsin’s winter weather.
