Tucker Update 9/6/21
First Days & Important Updates
Welcome Back!
We had a great two days to start the school year for students in Gr. 1-5 ! Despite the rainy weather the students did not let the rain dampen their spirits and started the year with bright smiles! On our first day we also resumed our annual tradition of a visit from State Senator Walter Timility to lead us in the pledge of allegiance!
As we start this week, we wish Shanah Tovah, to those in our community celebrating Rosh Hashanah. If your child will be absent from school to celebrate this holiday please send us an email so we can plan accordingly. If your family does not celebrate this holiday but would like to learn more here are links to resources you may find helpful to explore together.

Tomorrow, September 7th, we are excited to welcome our Preschool and Kindergarten students to the Tucker community! As we grow our population by almost 100 additional students and families we wanted to provide a few reminders to ensure safety. Please read on for these important updates.
- Protect the Paw-COVID-19 numbers are continuing to increase across the state. First and foremost, we ask that all families be very vigilant in regards to the safety of all. If your child is not well please do not send them to school. In particular if they have any of the symptoms from the daily checklist (linked here) you must follow the steps outlined. We would recommend you do that and then contact Nurse Joyce proactively. She can support you in answering questions or directing you accordingly. If you have a household member that is ill please contact Nurse Joyce for guidance on your child's attendance. Finally, if you find out your child has had an exposure please contact the nurse immediately. We would rather be proactive than reactive in regards to the safety of all. In the event that your child will need to stay home, as in past years, a packet of missed assignments will be put together and can be emailed to you for your child to work on. We will support your child through this time and ask for your support to keep our community safe.
- Arrival-There is no use of the playground before school. Beginning this week students in Gr. 1-5 will go directly to class in the mornings and will no longer line up outside to meet their teacher. Students in PreK and K will meet their teachers outside the first two days of school. There will be staff to direct you to the appropriate locations and support the transition into the building. For those using the Oak Street drop off please note that students should not arrive before 8:35 a.m. as there is no supervision outside. You also can not pull up to the lane and park or wait blocking traffic for neighbors and other drivers. Please arrive to the drop off no earlier than 8:35 a.m. so you can pull up and drop off without delaying others. Tucker tigers should be seated in the rear seat on the driver's side so they can easily exit the car to the sidewalk. Please be sure they are prepared with their belongings for a quick exit.
- Snack-Please remember to daily send a healthy nut-free snack to school. All students should also come to school with a reusable water bottle.
- Mask Lanyards-Last year we provided all Tucker tigers with mask lanyards. These lanyards clip to the sides of masks and ensure that when students remove the mask to ear or drink the mask does not get dropped and soiled. Although we are not able to provide lanyards again this year we encourage all families to utilize the previously provided lanyards or to purchase a new lanyard. Please note that lanyards must have the break-away feature for student safety.
- Dismissal-We appreciate how efficient dismissal was the first two days of school. Please continue as we grow our community to enter through the gym gate and exit through the rear gate. As a reminder, there is no use of the playground until 3:30 p.m. or until dismissal has been completed. It is very difficult for us to ensure all students have been dismissed safely when other children are playing and sightlines to the playground are minimized. It is also very difficult for us to both finalize dismissal and ensure the playground is clear so we can ask that you personally ensure your Tucker tiger(s) remain off the playground during this time even if we are not visibly on the playground to enforce this expectation. We welcome you to enjoy the playground as soon as dismissal is completed!
As we begin the year and make "asks" of families in regards to supplies and needs such as mask lanyards we ask that you contact us if you have a financial hardship. We are committed to supporting all families have the materials they need in school and at home for their child(ren) to succeed.
