CONFERENCES AND BOOK FAIR ARE HAPPENING
If you do not yet have an appointment scheduled with your classroom teacher, give the school a call at (207)938-4770 and the fabulous Miss Lisa will give you a hand. We would love to have you come to the building and share the school with your student(s). If that is not possible, let's get a phone or video conference set up instead.
Title I interventionists, specialist teachers (PE, Music, and Library), and Special Education teachers will all be here for you to check in with as needed.
We love having you back in Somerset Elementary. Parent involvement not only enhances academic performance----parent interest and encouragement in a child's education has a positive influence on attitude toward school, classroom conduct, self-esteem, and motivation.
Bake Sale During Conferences this Thursday
A table with baked goods will be available to families during conferences this Thursday night. Make a donation and enjoy a treat! There will be cookies, cinnamon buns, whoopie pies and other delicious items. Proceeds will benefit Mark Babin, Nokomis' Athletic Director, who is battling cancer. Thank you for your support!
Panther P.R.I.D.E. at Home
The students will be having a Panther Pride Day on Friday, May 13. They are earning links in a chain when teachers and staff notice them demonstrating Panther PRIDE here at school. As the chain grows down the hallway and to a classroom, the room becomes "unlocked", which means students will be able to access it during their Panther PRIDE time. Each room will have fun building activities such as Legos, Tangrams, marble runs, dominoes, kinetic sand, etc. The more rooms that are unlocked, the more activities the students will have to enjoy.
You can help our students unlock the gym and the cafeteria for our special day! Links that students bring back from home will build the chain that unlocks those two rooms. Keep an eye out for your student demonstrating Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Determination and Excellence while at home and in the community. Then fill out the link so they can return it to school to add to the chain. If you need more links, students can get them in the office or from their teacher - just have them ask!
BIKES FOR BOOKS APRIL 14th
The program is very simple. Each student is asked to read as many books as they can between now and April 14th. For each book the student reads, they get an entry form to fill out. The more books they read, the more entry forms they can put into the bike drawing. Each winner will receive a bike and a helmet.
We are so thankful for the community support and the work the Masons do fundraising and assembling these bikes. The students really enjoy it and it is a great way to promote the habit of reading. This is one of the most important things we can do for our children as it leads to a lifetime of growth and achievement. The more we read, the more we learn!
Thank you for your support of this program. We will be calling all winners after the assembly. Bike pick up will be between 2:30-5:00 on Thursday, April 14th
Kids Heart Challenge Wraps Up
We wrapped up another successful fundraiser for the American Heart Association! Somerset Elementary School has donated $1273! Thank you to everyone that participated for being Heart Heroes! Thank you gifts (jump ropes, t-shirts, balls) will be delivered to the school in about 4 weeks and will be passed out to the students that have earned them as soon as they arrive.
