The Principal's POV on...the 2020 African American Read-in

Thank you so much to Ms. Castro for another fantastic African American Read-in event! All our guest readers had a great time & our students enjoyed learning from the many community volunteers!

In developing our current read aloud curriculum, #BullockES has done a fantastic job of including texts that reflect the diversity of our school...and (more importantly) to expose our students to these texts and characters throughout all areas the curriculum and throughout the school year! As we continue to focus on Black History throughout the month of February, don't forget to look beyond the traditional historical figures, just as we have when selecting our read aloud texts. After all, the contributions and achievements of African Americans goes well beyond the underground railroad or the discovery of peanut butter!

See below for some names that our students may not have heard of...and click here to visit blackpast.org for some fantastic passages that can be shared with our students! Thank you for a fantastic week & have a great long weekend!

Joseph, along with many other Bullock students turned in a completed Kindness Checklist from our Great Kindness Challenge. Any student who turned in a checklist was entered into a drawing to win a Launch gift card. Thank you to all who participated in our Great Kindness Challenge activities! Let’s keep spreading kindness!

Read Across America: The first week of March will be here before you know it & we want to have some reading fun! If you have some ideas, let me know. We will be doing some planning in the weeks to come.
