The Principal's POV on...the 2020 African American Read-in
In developing our current read aloud curriculum, #BullockES has done a fantastic job of including texts that reflect the diversity of our school...and (more importantly) to expose our students to these texts and characters throughout all areas the curriculum and throughout the school year! As we continue to focus on Black History throughout the month of February, don't forget to look beyond the traditional historical figures, just as we have when selecting our read aloud texts. After all, the contributions and achievements of African Americans goes well beyond the underground railroad or the discovery of peanut butter!
See below for some names that our students may not have heard of...and click here to visit blackpast.org for some fantastic passages that can be shared with our students! Thank you for a fantastic week & have a great long weekend!
- Selma Burke, artist
- Garrett Morgan, inventor
- Macon Allen, attorney
- Marion Stokes, activist
- Wesley Harris, scientist
- Stayce Harris, General

Let’s keep spreading kindness!
