Happy New Year!

I am excited to ring in the new year this evening with my family and friends. 2015 was a great year...let's make 2016 even better!

Below are some news worthy items for all of you as you prepare to come back to work next Monday! Enjoy your last few days of break.

Strategic Planning

For the past several months, a strategic planning committee has been working on the mission and vision for GCS. The goal is to have a 10 year plan in place that identifies who we are, where we have been, and where we are going. I have had the privilege to serve on this committee. The committee work is not always easy but the outcome will be rewarding.

Dr. Woodworth has scheduled several TENTATIVE meeting locations to update all of you on our progress that we have made over the past several months. We still have quite a bit of work left to do but communicating our progress with all of GCS is vital for us to continue to get insight and suggestions for OUR vision.

Below are the dates/places for these meetings. I would highly encourage you to attend one of these so you can be updated on this important process. (If these dates/places change, I will be sure to let you know).

January 27 @ 7:30 a.m. @ GHS

January 27 @ 3:15 p.m. @ Parkside

January 28 @ 7:30 a.m. @ GMS

January 28 @ 3:15 p.m. @ Admin. Center in the Board Room

IRead Teachers

We are in need of approximately 2 more teachers for IRead club. This starts on January 25th. It runs from 3-4 pm Monday-Thursday. We will run it like we have in the past – For the first ½ hour - ½ the students are in the computer lab while other half is in small group with a teacher. Then, we switch for the second ½ hour. You will be paid for this hour. Certified vs classified is different. I would be happy to let you know your rate of pay if you are interested. Send me an e-mail or let me know in person, if you are interested!

Report Card Reminder

Report cards will be going home on January 11th. Remember – the report card itself is the same; the insert you put in will be different!

Textbook/Consumables

Mr. Hawkins needs to streamline the textbook rental process – what is considered “textbook” vs. “consumables”. The state is asking him to tighten the reins! So, I need to have a list of your grade level “consumables” (i.e., journals, notebooks, crayons, etc) that you order each year. Please get this list to me by the end of January. I will then send it on to Central Office.

Looking ahead...

Coming up, there are several Mondays that we will not have school (January 18th and February 15th). The Tuesday of those weeks will be late arrival days. In order for the 5th grade team to have their specials on these Tuesdays, we will follow the Monday time schedule but Tuesday classes - just like we did when we missed a Monday in September.

New Cluster Configurations Reminder

NEW CLUSTER CONFIGURATIONS AFTER BREAK:

Tuesday mornings before school: Related Arts
Tuesday afternoons after school:: 4th/5th grade
Wednesday mornings before school: K/1st grade
Wednesday afternoons after school: 2nd/3rd grade
*We will have coverage for K/1st teachers from 7:35-7:55 while the students are eating breakfast

Thank you so much for your flexibility and willingness to do this. As we have been field testing the Close Reading Strategy, we are finding that it is imperative to differentiate the roll out of this strategy per these grade levels. Thanks, also, to Aimee for being willing to lead 4 clusters so we can provide the best instruction for all of our students.

Reminder - Monday Morning

Reminder from the e-mail I sent out a few days ago:

On Monday morning, we will meet in the TAP room at 7:30. I would to spend about 15-20 minutes with all of you on analyzing some results from our TELL survey – I would like your input on how we have been improving in some of the areas that scored lower and what else we need to do this last half of the year to continue improving.

TLT Updates:

On Monday we will be reviewing the student work so far in field testing. We will analyze the strengths and weaknesses that the work is showing us to plan for the remainder of field testing. We are looking forward to rolling this cluster strategy out for all of you in cluster!
