Transportation News
The transportation office is staffed from 7 AM until 4 PM daily; coverage is extended during inclement weather. You can reach the office at 717-244-4518 extension 3 or by email at lubkingd@rlasd.net or townsendl@rlasd.net.
Students should be at their stop ready to board the bus at least 5 minutes before the established stop time. It will take at least 2 or 3 weeks for pick up and drop off times to stabilize as we begin the new school year. Thank you for your patience during this time.
New to the 2020/2021 school year is that each student must wear a face covering while on the bus. This is per the CDC and State Health guidelines.
Our buses are radio equipped, so we can communicate directly with them. Expect delays on inclement weather days, as our buses slow down to allow for conditions. Should a bus be delayed more than 30 minutes, we will activate the automated call system to notify parents of the delay.
Our bus drivers, including substitutes, are provided photo ID badges; if you see an unfamiliar face, feel free to ask to see their ID.
Drivers are on a schedule, which does not allow for extended conversation at stops. If you have questions or concerns, please call your school office for student behavior issues, and the transportation office for concerns about drivers, stop locations or schedule.
We cannot honor requests for transportation that will vary each week. Exceptions to the assigned transportation may be granted by the building principal for emergencies only. Requests for transportation changes for non-emergency reasons (working on school projects, staying overnight with a friend, scout meeting, parent going shopping, etc.) will not be accepted. Telephone requests will be taken in case of emergency only. Please call the school secretary and notify her as soon as possible. If you will be picking up your child for a doctor’s appointment, please write a note to your child’s teacher. All other permanent changes must be made by completing a Transportation Request Form which may be obtained on the district website, from the Education Center, and in the main office of your child’s school.
To assist in monitoring student safety and behavior on the school busses, cameras have been installed in the front and rear of all buses. The video and sound recordings captured are the confidential property of the Red Lion Area School District and will only be viewed under the direct supervision of the Director of Transportation or a member of administration. Students are advised that their behavior on the busses can be monitored and the improper conduct will not be tolerated.
Red Lion Area School District Title 1
The Red Lion Area School District Title I Program is a school-wide assistance program in which all students in grades K through 6 who are enrolled in a Title I building may receive Title I services. These services are provided to address students' needs in the area of English Language Arts. Students are eligible to receive supplemental instructional services and activities which support these students identified as failing or most at risk of failing the state’s challenging performance standards in the areas of reading and writing.
All of our elementary schools are approved as Title I schools for the 2020-21 school year, except for Locust Grove Elementary. If you have a specific question regarding a school's Title I program, please contact the building principal or reading specialist at any of our schools.
The Red Lion Area School District Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy & School-Home Compacts for 2020-21 will be posted in September on the home webpage of our Title I buildings. These documents encourage parents to be actively involved in their child's education.
