Professional Learning Opportunities for Secondary Teachers
Tech Tools
Thinglink
It works on all modern web browsers as well as iPad, iPhone and Android.
You can use them as a starting point to your units of study or as a way for students to showcase what they've learned about a topic.
It is free to sign up as a teacher. Make sure you sign up under the edu version which allows you to create classes with students. Click on the Thinglink below for more tips and tricks and check out the video underneath that to see how to get started!
Snagit
Snagit can be used by teachers to capture or snag the documents and presentations your students are working on, add feedback, and easily share with your students for review wherever they are. Students can use Snagit to take a quick screenshot of what they are working on, add notes, and share it with others. It can also be used to narrate comments while recording a screencast.
Spotlight on...
Nancy is a 5th/6th grade teacher at Jellick Elementary. She integrates technology into many of her lessons. Her students have used iPads to create green screen projects with the DoInk app, stop-motion animation projects with Google Slides, and movies with iMovie. Nancy is a life-long learner and attends many edtech conferences and edcamps. She was inspired after hearing about 360DegreeMath and has created her own version of that in her classroom.
Her students utilize technology to showcase their learning and conduct research for their Genius Hour/Passion Projects. Students are exploring various topics from the 2030 Agenda for their next project.
Michael teaches Architectural Design, Construction & Technology, and Engineering & Design at Rowland High School. He is currently using Google Classroom with his students as a way to communicate and have his students actively participate in a blended learning environment. Additionally, Michael often makes screencasts for his students showing them tips and tutorials for projects and assignments they are working on.

EdCampXA
EdCamp is a non-profit organization that has “un-conferences” around the world. In our case, San Dimas High School will open on a Saturday, and teachers from around the area will converge for a morning of conversation, debate, learning, and growth. The event is free for teachers to attend, and the sessions are decided by whoever shows up that morning. Click here to see the website.
Our EdCamp is themed “Excellent Adventure,” after the late-80’s film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, which took place in and around San Dimas High School (though they travelled through time and space, too).
Also, there's breakfast and free stuff.
