This Week:

READING: Students reviewed how to compare and contrast different texts and rotated through each 4th grade teacher's room. Students also read a story on Booker T. Washington and how his life began in slavery and the obstacles he overcame to get an education.

MATH: We finished up Unit 1 with practice on word problems and review. We played a review game today called Kahoot - ask your kiddos about it! Students will take the Unit 1 test on Tuesday, September 8.

WRITING: We worked on sentence structure, using C.O.P.S., and learned how to correctly create a paragraph.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Students began their Landform Project. The goal is for each student to be able to label major landforms and bodies of water. We will display these at BTS Night. Students will continue to work on these next week.

Next Week:

READING: We will be reading a historical fiction story about a child immigrant from China. We will have great discussions about immigrants and how they have made it to America.

MATH: Students will take the Unit 1 test and then we will begin Unit 2 - Multiplication. Look for a video next week to help with the different ways our students are learning to multiply multi-digit numbers.

WRITING: We are continuing to work on our sentence structure and creating paragraphs. Talk to your student about SPICY words and what a good, descriptive sentence looks like. We will also talk about IDIOMS. **Treat for any student who brings in an example of an idiom with a drawing any day next week!

REMINDERS:

  • Please make sure you are looking over your child's homework and signing the front page.
  • The math homework is our Unit 1 review. Please look to see what your child is struggling to complete, this is a great indicator of how they will perform on our first test.
