Campus Climate Survey
Jarrell ISD is conducting its annual climate survey. As a parent/guardian, your voice is critical to how our district functions. The survey has nine questions and should take less than five minutes. The deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, December 10th.
We strive for success for all students and staff at Jarrell ISD, and you play a significant role in achieving our mission.
Little Free Library - December 2023
Fun Fact: A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, was first published in 1843. The first LIttle Free Library was created 166 years later
As falling leaves give way to winter winds, our Little free library overflows with precious stories of Christmas cookies and snowy days. Join Amelia Bedilia, Flat Stanley, the Magic Treehouse kids and many other wonderful characters as they go on frosty adventures.
Also, JES would like to give a nod of thanks to our families who are donating books to our Little Free Library. Your generosity makes our library even more special.
We hope you will stop by the Little Free Library and take a book,
leave a book, or trade a book.

PRE-K
This week in pre-k, we will be comparing stories with similar story lines (plots), with different characters and settings. In math, we will be exploring three- dimensional shapes and sorting them by attributes. In literacy, we will continue recognizing rhyming words, and understanding that each letter represents a sound, lastly we will practice making predictions to improve comprehension.
KINDER
1st GRADE
Reading: We will use text evidence to appropriately answer questions about an informational text and use this information to prepare for a unit assessment. We will be assessing the vocabulary and comprehension skills learned from the informational text. Students will also be preparing for the sight word assessment. Students will be retested over the sight words for the first nine weeks and the words for the second nine weeks.
Phonics: We will continue to read words with the digraphs oo, ou, aw, oi, ee, and a_e. We will also continue to segment phonemes and count sounds in words and review nouns and verbs. At the end of the week we will have a word recognition and story comprehension unit assessment. We will not have a spelling test this week.
Math: We will continue our unit in math over measurement. We will be comparing lengths of objects and measuring objects
Science: We will be observing, comparing, describing, and sorting components of soil by size, texture, and color. A note is going home on Monday for students to collect a sample of soil to bring to school. Students will be investigating the different types of soil on Wednesday.
2nd GRADE
In Reading (Skills), we will be learning about the /ue/ and /aw/ sounds and their spellings. We will be learning about synonyms and antonyms and reading stories from our grade level reader. In Reading (Knowledge) we will be wrapping up our unit on Cycles of Nature. In Math, we will be learning about strategies for composing a ten. In Social Studies, we will be learning about how work provides income to purchase goods and services.
3rd GRADE
This week in third grade we will be wrapping up our fourth ELAR unit about Roman Culture! We will be finishing up an opinion essay about Roman god/goddesses as well. In math we will be wrapping up our third unit where we will be learning about multiplying two digit numbers by a one digit number. In science we will be learning about how soil is formed.
4th GRADE
Fourth grade will be finishing up our Treasure Island unit this week in language arts. We will wrap up by summarizing the story and taking our assessment over character interactions, summarizing, and providing text evidence. For math we will begin working multiplication of two-digit by two-digit numbers. We will continue in science to identify Earth's renewable and non-renewable resources and the importance of conservation. Finally in social studies we will be exploring the empresarios and colonization of Texas.
5th GRADE
In math we will continue working on order of operations this week! Students will be able to solve an order of operations questions using the four operations with up to two levels of groupings using whole numbers.
This week marks the beginning of our exploration into science TEKS 5.8A, B, and C. Our focus will be on distinguishing between weather and climate, and delving into the intricate relationship between the sun and ocean within the complex dynamics of the water cycle.
This is a fun and powerful week for ELAR! For instance, students will work on identifying and analyzing the main elements of the plot and will be able to write a claim. Additionally, students will learn to recognize the importance of supporting evidence. Then, students will write present-tense sentences in which the subject and the linking verb agree. We will then determine the types of irony—verbal, situational, and dramatic—. Not only that, but students will draft an introductory paragraph of their persuasive essay. Here, they will provide textual evidence to support their opinions in the body paragraphs of their persuasive essays. Lastly, students will use textual evidence to compare and contrast the character traits of the principal characters. This week will involve lots of focus and the love of learning, which they show each day! We are beyond proud of them!
Spelling Words:
1. adventure 2. armor 3. courage 4. disguise 5. enchanted 6. imagination 7. knighthood 8. nonsense 9. ordinary 10. squire
