Animal Adaptations & Maple Sugaring!

12:15 - 1:00 Lunch in the barn (please bring a bag lunch, refraining from bringing peanut products)

1:00 - 2:30 Maple Sugaring program

2:30 Sign-out

Cost:

$10 per person (includes both programs)

This event will be best enjoyed by students in grades K-8. If parents and siblings wish to attend, but not participate, they are welcome to enjoy the nature center on their own at no cost. Parent/chaperone must stay onsite for the entire outing.

Animal Adaptations:


Learn how animals use their adaptations to survive in their habitat. Uses live animals and artifacts. (1 hour) PA EE 4.6 / SAS EE 4.1; PA ST 3.3 / SAS STE 3.1A, C


Maple Sugaring:


Maple Sugaring is an important agricultural crop with a fascinating history. Explore the historical processes as well as the more technological one used today and learn how the biology of the tree affects production. (1.5 hours) PA EE 4.2, 4.4, 4.8 / SAS EE 4.3, 4.4, 4.5; SAS STE 3.4B; PA H 8.1/SAS H 8.2, 8.3 and learn how the biology of the tree affects production. (1.5 hours) PA EE 4.2, 4.4, 4.8 / SAS EE 4.3, 4.4, 4.5; SAS STE 3.4B; PA H 8.1/SAS H 8.2, 8.3

OLS Hours: 150 minutes of Science and 45 minutes of Language Arts

RSVP Information:

Please RSVP to Kathie Bell, kbell@pavcsk12.org, no later than January 31st. The following information must be included in your email:


1) Name, grade, and homeroom teacher's name for each PA Virtual student.

2) Name and grade level of additional students participating.

3) Name of adult chaperone.

4) If there are any severe allergies of which we need to be aware.


Outing Reminders:

Reminders for all PA Virtual Events:

1: In consideration of our students with serious allergies, please refrain from bringing nut (food) products and balloons.

2: As always, to limit the spread of possible flu, please do not attend a PAVCS event if you have had a fever within 24 hours of the event.

3: For safety: All students need to be accompanied by a parent or learning coach. All students must wear shoes/sneakers for the entire school event and please refrain from bringing pets.

4: If there is a possibility of severe weather, please check Blackboard the day of the event in case the event is cancelled due to weather.

5: All PAVCS events are tobacco free.
