A message from the principal
Reporting student absences
With the onset of cold and flu season, we have seen an increase in student absences. We always appreciate when families notify the school when their children will be absent, as then we know they are home safe when they don't arrive at school. Another way parents can notify the school of absences is by using their ParentVUE account. Some families find this option more convenient than calling the school's absence line. To report an absence in ParentVue, open "My Student Information". Once your student is selected, click/tap on the "Attendance" option on the left and then use the "Report Absence" button on the right to enter the absence. If you prefer calling in the absence, please call 763-433-5006.
Attendance letters
Families have started to receive attendance letters from the school. This is a practice that is required of all schools per state statute. (This practice was suspended the past two years due to the pandemic.) We send attendance letters when students have 3 unexcused absences, 5 absences, 6 unexcused absences and when students reach 10 or more days out of school. Typically, the average absences for a school year is 10 days for a student. We recognize that extenuating circumstance may arise. If you receive a letter regarding your child's attendance and you have questions, please feel free to reach out to us. We are here to answer any questions you may have.
Annual food drive
November 28 - December 1, 2022
Once again we will hold a food drive at Sunrise to support the Anoka Christmas committee. We have participated in this food drive since we opened our school, and the recipients of your generosity have been so appreciative. The following schedule has been created to support the greatest food needs for this charity. If you are able to donate, here is our collection schedule. There will be tables in the main hallway as the students enter in the morning. They may place their donations on the tables before heading to class.
November 28 - December 1, 2022
Monday - canned food
Tuesday - cereal
Wednesday - boxed food
Thursday - peanut butter or snack food
Winter weather reminders
Students will continue to go outside for recess through the winter months. Students will not go outside if the temperature is below zero or if the windchill is greater than -10. Please send your child to school with what you expect them to wear outside. We don't have specific requirements, but we strongly recommend boots, snow pants, jackets, hats and mittens/gloves. When students have these items they stay warm and dry. Please label your child's belongings so they can be returned if left outside or found in the hallway.
Sunrise PTO update
The PTO had so many families reach out regarding teacher supply wish lists after open house, so we thought we would ask each grade level and specialist department for items they would like to add to their classrooms this year. Below are the Wish Lists for each grade level we have received. Items will be shipped directly to Sunrise from Amazon, so please include a little note from your family when you place your order so the teachers know who sent it and can thank each family. If you have any questions, please reach out to the PTO at mnsunrisepto@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for supporting our teachers! Click the image below to access the Sunrise wish lists.
