What's the scoop at the Luce?
Hello Luce Families,
Last week we had our first taste of snow in Canton. As the weather continues to get colder, please make sure to send your children with warm weather gear. If anyone needs support with getting essential winter supplies, please let me know.
We are heading into our last full week of December. There are many joyous activities planned for our learning community. Please make sure to read all of the events planned, so your child can participate.

Winter health tip of the week: Nosebleeds
Nosebleeds are quite common this time of year, especially with school-aged kids who may be nose-picking or just from the dry air.
How to help prevent a nosebleed:
- Run a cool-mist humidifier in the bedroom. Make sure to clean it weekly to prevent any bacteria from growing
- Keep the nails short to prevent injuries from nose-picking and remind kids to blow their nose gently
- Keep the inside of the nose moist. You can use a saline nasal spray or put a dab of petroleum jelly around the opening of the nose daily
- Protect the nose, especially during sports and other activities with athletic equipment to prevent injury to the nose
- Don't smoke in the home or around your child
How to treat a nosebleed?
- Stay calm
- Have the child sit up and lean forward. You want to avoid leaning the head backwards so that they do not swallow any blood
- Gently pinch the nostrils and apply pressure toward the back of the nose for 5-10 min. Do not stuff tissues in the nose
- You can apply a cold compress to the bridge of the nose or the back of the neck to help constrict the blood vessels

District Update(s)
Substitutes Needed (Repost)
Do you have a college-age child coming home for winter break? If so, would they be interested in subbing for the Canton Public Schools while they are here? Subbing is a great way to keep busy, make money and get real-world work experience. In Canton, we have had great success bringing our own, former students back to help support our students and schools during this busy time year. If your child is interested, please have them fill out this sub application packet and email it to Kim Eardley (eardleyk@cantonma.org) to get the process started. If they fill it out before they get home, the process can begin asap!
Students in their first year of college are able to sub at the elementary and preschool levels only.
Students in their second year or beyond can sub at all school levels.
