Juergens' Journal
8-21-2020
Hello VG Families & Staff,
Well, we made it through our first full week!!! Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate these times together! Like every year, the first few weeks of school are mainly geared towards building community and getting to know each other.
Thank you to our amazing TK-3 Grade teachers for their very first REMOTE Back to School Nights this week. Our 4th & 5th Grade teachers will be holding their Remote Back to School Night this Thursday, 8/27.
2020 has been full of obstacles and the CA fires are another reminder to appreciate what we have. Today as I walked around campus, I was reminded of this time last year: in door recess & lunches, staff & students inside due to the poor air quality and how can we forget the power outages. I am thankful that your babies are safely at home with all of you! I am sure you share in my sympathies to the families that are enduring these horrible challenges and are grateful to our first responders who are doing everything they can in the fight for safety.
I am extremely proud of all of our classroom teachers and classroom paraeducators for their dedication to our students as they figure out this new way of teaching and handle all the technological roller coasters they are dealing with throughout their days. What parents don't see are the hours they spend outside of the 8:00-2:25 school day to lesson plan, learn new assessment programs, collaborate and communicate with their grade levels, check and respond to emails, weed through district and site emails, attend staff meetings, and figure out what should go home during student material pick up so your child will have new materials. Thank you for all of your kindness and grace as they figure out how to put this all together.
I know these times are not easy, but I want to remind ALL of us that together we can do this!!!!
Next week students begin full days of instruction. Please note that the BLUE times are learning times and the purple are small group instruction. See the wording on the bell schedules below for more details. PE, Science, and Music classes will officially begin next week. Our Art and Technology programs run on rotations by grade levels and will begin soon as well. Our librarians are also working together to begin a library check out system for students.
** If you are having technical difficulties, I would like to remind you that our teachers are teaching, so please see the Need Technology Assistance information below for assistance.
*** Please do not post photos or videos on social media of your child's class while on a ZOOM/Google Meet as this is a privacy issue.
* If you email me, please know my response time may be delayed. I try my best to respond to all emails as quickly as possible.
With Gratitude & Partnership,
:) Principal Juergens

What will happen if we have a power outage???
Please make sure your devices are charged throughout the day and each night!
From the District:
In the event of a rotating power outage during the school day, and your student does not have access to the internet or a device due to the power loss, we ask you to please do the following:
If you are able, email the teacher directly and let them know.
When you are able, call your school’s attendance line and let them know that your student is temporarily unable to engage in distance learning due to the power outage.
If available, consider using your cell phone as a hotspot in order to continue attending classes remotely until the power is restored.
No student will be penalized due to lack of ability to participate in distance learning due to a power outage.
